Editorial: I ditched SteamOS in favour of a normal Linux distribution for my gaming

I still really like SteamOS and plan to continue using it for mostly one reason: it knows how to fix screen-tearing! (EG vertical sync problems).

Whenever I try to play any games that do not include dedicated options for vertical sync, mostly 2D games like Cave Story or Stardew Valley, I have always gotten chronic screen tearing on the PC. It happens in Xubuntu 12.04, 14.04, 16.04, Linux Mint Maya, Ubuntu 12.04, 14.04, 16.04, and yes... even Windows XP and Windows 7! I've tried fiddling with Nvidia driver settings, tried different desktop environments, all to no avail.

The only place I've ever seen most all 2D games run without screen-tearing is on consoles... and SteamOS!

I don't know what what black magic it uses, and I don't care. Screen-tearing is one of my most hated graphical glitches, especially in 2D games, and I play a lot of 2D games.

Seriously, for that alone I am sticking to SteamOS for games.

Disgaea 2 PC is coming to Linux & SteamOS

Holy crap! I never expected to see this! We don't get many legitimate Japanese games at all on Linux, so it's great to see, but this also happens to be one of my favorite JRPG/strategy series! I logged well over 100 hours on the first game, and I got a little ways into 2, but I didn't get very far just because I'm not able to be in front of my old Playstation 2 very often anymore. To have this on SteamOS/Linux?? Freakin' dream come true! Will be an insta-buy as soon as it's official!

Well let's not bury the Linux version before it's even had a chance to kill itself. If we act like we care maybe they will be less likely to think no one does and scrap it. I for one do care! It looks like a really cool game! Will there be stones thrown if I say I like furry characters?

Super Crate Box, GUN GODZ & Serious Sam: The Random Encounter to come to Linux

Yay! It seems like ages ago since I played Serious Sam: TRE. Probably because it was ages ago that I still played games on Windows.

These quick little indie games are what it seems like I play most often because I don't have much time for games.

I have a weakness for any game mentioned in the same breath as Heretic or Hexen! :3 I'll have to at least check it out.

Project Cars official twitter confirms to me there are no plans for it on Linux now

Are we absolutely positive that this isn't a situation where whoever is running their Twitter account doesn't know that "Linux" and "SteamOS" are the same thing? Seems like someone without a clue could have looked at their list of things they will support and said "Let's see... Windows, Mac, SteamOS... Nope no Linux here. 'No, we won't support Linux.'"

I mean, I don't want to get people's hopes up, but it does seem super strange that they would leave that paragraph up on their site.

This pre-alpha video of BATTLETECH looks quite amazing

So... will this be on Linux? I'm assuming that since we're talking about it, it at least hopefully will be. Has it been officially confirmed or anything?

I literally ctrl-f'ed this article and comments looking for "linux." :)

This Is the Police released for Linux, some thoughts on this intriguing strategy and adventure game

Looks cool! I sometimes feel like we're drowning in adventure games, albeit a lot of good ones, but adding a strong strategy mechanic, with maybe hints of RPG elements, might be the key to getting me back into adventure games! Plus the choice system reminds me of FTL, which is always a good thing! :)

Quoting: AnxiousInfusionWe have already established that these Disney games GOG just added are no longer abandonware so loggfreak is not referring to these games when he says "they simply don't give you an option to pay for it." I'm sure we can all think of a few ancient games today that literally have no legal means of acquisition. Props to GOG for "liberating" these titles.
Yeah! You're exactly right. Those ancient games that you just can't buy anywhere are real abandonware games. Fair enough if the point was already clear. I just didn't want the idea floating around that a digital distributor could snap up an old game and sell it without licensing it officially. Isn't automatic Public Domain the life of the author +100 years or something insane like that?
