It's hard to think about buying digital Atari games for two reasons:
1. I still have my original Atari 2600.
2. Every Atari 2600 game ever released by every publisher could almost certainly collectively fit on one 1990s-era floppy disk.
I just watched the documentary on Netflix where they dug up the Atari cartridges in the New Mexico landfill. It was pretty good. E.T. was arguably a better game than Warshaw's Raiders of the Lost Ark, which is completely impossible to figure out without a walkthrough.

What's the relationship between FNA and MonoGame? Is one of them abandoned? Is one a fork? Is there a political reason for the two projects existing?

I should mention that based on testing, I prefer MATE for a gaming friendly desktop manager, because it uses only software compositing by default. KDE is my second choice, because it makes it easy to turn off hardware compositing.

If you just disable compositing, games run great in Linux. The only problem is lack of resolution switching support, which kills me in games like FTL and Gemini Rue. I've become too familiar with using xrandr! It would be better if games or Linux could just do a bilinear scale to my native resolution though, which is what the monitor ends up doing anyway.

GOG have put up some serious classics for Linux, such as Cannon Fodder

It can't be an issue of not wanting to provide tech support to Linux users, as I think GoG handles that, and I can't imagine that there would be game-specific technical issues with DOSBox games in Linux.
At any rate, it seems to me that GoG has a publisher engagement problem here, which as I said earlier is disappointing. Would voting for Linux ports on the site wishlist help, or should we organize write-in campaigns to the publishers? GamingOnLinux should run this as a story IMO :p

I'm a bit disappointed at how small the Linux subset of my GOG library is. The majority of my library is probably DOS games, which ought to be supported in Linux as easily as Windows via DOSBox, but for some reason there is no Linux version available.
Obviously I can install them on Windows and move the game over to Linux to run in DOSBox there, but that's not really the point is it?

This is one of my favorite games on Android. Got it via Humble Bundle though, so no hope of getting the DLC :(

Just played thru both freespace games using Freespace Open. They look gorgeous with the community produced graphics mods!
I wanted to play via my Logitech extreme 3D joystick, but I actually found the mouse to be way, way more accurate for aiming.
I should mention that the ending of the second game is very sudden and disappointing. I'm not sure why it is better remembered than the first game.
