Have you tried with only one GPU? I heard this SLI/CrossFire thing doesn't work good on Linux if at all.

I can't even run it. A non-repainting window appears and that's it. I sent an email with details to Feral, hope this can be fixed quickly.

So this skill is a thing. Guess I'll start from level 20 ^_^

Thanks for the benchmarks, performance is really pleasing. Would also be good to compare the median/min/max frame times, I remember some cases when the FPS was higher on Windows but the frame time stability was much better on Linux so the game felt smoother despite lower FPS. I think we can expect the same with Vulkan as it exploits multithreading much more efficiently, potentially preventing nasty spikes. This can also be true for DX12. I would always prefer stable 80 FPS to inconsistent 100 FPS.

Just put 32 Gb in the damn box and forget about RAM. I did that and never regretted it, I run whatever I want and it just works, games, IDEs, VMs, tons of Chrome tabs, all AT THE SAME TIME and I still have plenty of RAM for /tmp

Quoting: tuubiBut how much less appealing would it be for a gamer to switch to Linux from Windows if they had to buy again all of their Linux-supporting AAA games ported by companies like Aspyr and Feral, especially if the Linux ports were more expensive?
Very this, and if you want to support the porting company buy from their store! It's even more relevant if you live in a country that has regional discounts like mine (Russia). The price here is usually 60-80% lower [External Link] than the base one (in US dollars). It's higher for the AAA titles but low enough to justify a purchase. Nevertheless, I bought from the Feral Store because these big and nice titles only get ported once in a few months and I wholeheartedly support the Feral's work. It's absolutely essential for promoting Linux and FOSS despite the games themselves being proprietary. The price was pretty high, about 2 days wage for me, but you know what? That was the best money spent in a while. And I'm considering doing the same for LiS because buying it for mere $7 (of which Steam gets 30% and the original developer gets a cut) is just wrong.

If you don't have starving children and family to feed, at least consider paying to Feral directly, they deserve each and every penny. And you also invest in the Linux gaming future.

Wow, that's really awesome! Although I'm not that concerned and will play in Russian anyway but it's good to know the English-speaking audience is well covered.

Will there be voiceovers or just text? Are you going to hire a professional English translator for the text and/or subtitles?

Quoting: GuestHow's performance for everyone else so far? not gotten very far in game yet but I'm struggling to have a fully smooth experience thus far, tried turning vsync off which seems to keep it above 60fps but still has inconsistency enough that I can see alot of stuttering, also tried disabling compositing along with capping the fps to 60fps but still dips under 60fps, even if I turn every setting down

That said, it's still perfectly playable so far with minimal drops, not encountered any game breaking bugs yet, but I'm hoping to get a solid 60fps when it releases out of beta

gtx 1060 3gb
i5 4690k
16gb ram
1600x900
Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64-bit
Also stutters mostly on attacks on GTX 1070/7700k. After I died the first time a stuck piece of the "death screen" was left at the bottom of the screen. Weird. It looks like the game doesn't draw in that area at all, I tried different fullscreen modes, "windowed" does the trick after going fullscreen manually with a hotkey. Might be something to do with my not-quite-standart 1920x1200 resolution. This gap looks like what happens when I start a fullscreen trailer in Steam though in that case the non-redrawing strip is at the top. The game also minimizes on launch and I have to restore it manually.

Overall quite good for the beta. It starts and allows to play but surely needs polish.

Civilization VI: Rise and Fall is a solid and focused expansion

I think comeback mechanics are quite important in any more or less competitive game. Otherwise, why even play if you're clearly losing half into the round? Such mechanics allow to turn the tides given enough skill and sometimes luck, they encourage you not to concede even though you're not doing well at all. Don't forget that it also improves the gameplay for the top players (if you multiplay). They can't just sit and skip turns but should always be ready for an unexpected challenge. It's hard to make comebacks balanced and fair-looking, though.

My other concern is how good the translation will be, since it's going from Russian to English…so many things get lost in the translations, let's hope they do it justice.
Totally that. Considering that Russian is a highly synthetic language (i.e. it allows to construct new words with subtle connotations using lots of suffixes, prefixes, word-forms etc.) it's expected that the translation would pale in comparison. Another problem is the cultural code that any work of art unavoidably carries along. I always try to consume the product in the original language, which is English or Japanese most of the time, because any translation subconsciously contradicts the original culture the product has been created in. And if possible, I use English subtitles, even if the Russian ones are available, to prevent my own culture influence.

However, the most important concern here is just the translation quality I think. These guys are pretty serious about the game, in another thread [External Link] they say the studio was founded in 2011 so they've been working for 7 years already. The main Steam language, even after the recent Chinese surge, is still English so hiring a good native translator is a natural choice. It's hard to say if there will be any voiceovers or just text. In the former case I guess subtitles is your best bet.

I heard (but don't quote me on that) that the game is going to be released 2018 "no matter what" because (if you think about it for a second) they might be running low on resources. So, it may be buggy and/or our platform may be postponed. I really hope it's just rumors.
