Near Death, survive the cold in Antarctica, coming to Linux in August

Despite the lack of high-res textures and modern lighting, I really like it! The atmosphere is so thick I can scoop it with a spoon. Probably not the best release time as it's (mostly) summer around the globe but still it feels amazing. Reminds me of SOMA's last levels at the very deep of the ocean.

It's not clear if there are any supernatural entities at the base though. Something bad happened there after all, didn't it?

Desktop Environments have been added to the user statistics graphs

I also think window managers should have their own picker. And something needs to be done with audio. Like audio subsystem (ALSA/PulseAudio), number of channels (2.0, 2.1, 5.1, 7.1, headphones), soundcard variant (integrated, PCI, USB), maybe something else.

As longtime Microsoft Windows developers prior to Crusader Kings II, how long did it PDS to get used to the idea of internal multiplatform development?
I don't really your question.
How long did it take...
You should have asked "you don't really what?" and I replied "your question" -_-

Now it's ruined. Thanks.

What are you playing this weekend?

Quoting: shadowvengence22Gona probably play dreamfall chapters just picked it up and League of Legends though wine.
If you have any artifacts in DFC like I and another player (on Mac) have, please bump this thread [External Link]. The issue hasn't got much attention from the devs and I worry if it's not reproducible enough.

SteamWorld Heist, FTL (suddenly) and Transmissions: Element 120. The last part of Dreamfall Chapters has been released today but the Mac/Linux versions still suffer from random dots issue and it's been half a year since I reported it. No response from RedThreadGames and no fix apparently. It even became worse in some regards. The game itself is great, the non-windows support... not so much.

A new benchmark video shows Dota 2 with Vulkan performing better on Windows than Linux

From reddit [External Link]:
Maybe the Linux driver is still not perfect for the 1080 card?
From Phoronix, discussing the latest beta driver:
The NVIDIA 367.18 Linux driver doesn't explicitly mention any Pascal support for the new GTX 1070 and GTX 1080, but I believe that's in there too. The next driver release though should officially mention this new graphics card support.
So that suggests to me that the tested driver (not sure of the Linux version he used, I assume the latest stable) is not great for the 1080.
Liam, you have Windows and you can test the renderer yourself. 980Ti should be supported very well and this concern would be struck out.

Things I feel Valve need to address to help SteamOS really be something fantastic

Filters are ridiculously screwed up. Today I saw a lot of win/mac only games in popular releases and top sellers. Out of curiosity I opened the full search page and discovered that by default it has windows and mac platforms selected and Linux NOT selected. So instead of listing Linux games it filtered them out. Of course, there were some that included all three platforms but they were in minority.

Liked the article but also some comments here make sense. SteamOS could really be something other than we thought it is. Plan B or a cross-platform push or a long term investment (or yes, an experiment that went kinda wrong), we won't know the truth anyway.

Also, Valve-time. Don't forget.

SteamWorld Heist launched with day-1 Linux support, some thoughts

Playing it for two days now and absolutely love it. It's party-based and after each mission you can chit-chat with the crew. That gives me some Bioware vibes and that's good. The game also has an xcom-like turns. You can either run a bit and then shoot or you can run farther and not be able to shoot. Some actions consume half of turn (like collecting swag), some don't (like opening doors and hatches). As in XCom some weapons require you not to move at all to be able to use it (sniper and laser sight weapons) and you see the trajectory beforehand for grenades and lasers.

The game has a perfect controller support (unlike XCom 2) and I suggest you to play it on it if you have one. It's also quite long, about 12-20 hours as I read. After completing it I plan to get their other game about digging.

Red Comrades Save the Galaxy: Reloaded, a remaster of a 1998 game now available on Linux & SteamOS
10 Jun 2016 at 12:13 am UTC

I somehow missed this whole franchise [External Link] (in Russian), though in 1998 I haven't got an IBM PC anyway and was a schoolboy. It's time to revisit the past!

I agree, it likely won't be as funny for non-Russians, there are lots of jest-books about the main characters and I'm sure the game contains lots of references to those anecdotes and overall Soviet Russian culture. From what I heard, many puzzles are illogical or just plain absurd. Though this may be a part of fun, we'll see.

I hope the rest of the games would be remastered or ported as well. I read the devs made a framework atop of Unity so it'll be a smoother process if they decide to go further.
