This is all about devs, because we are so silly we think they are going to take those extra earnings to create more stuff for their games...
But what these stores brings to customers? I cant even control the downloading speed on the EPIC launcher or ask for refund yet, still this is the kind of stuff you could expect from any store on 2018, new or old.
I wonder when someone is gonna bring what these stores have to offer to those lost souls who arent developers?
Refunds? Reviews? Info about how many people play online(for multiplayer games)? Local currencies? Workshop? Curators? Invites friends inside the game(aside from Fortnite)?
I cant think of any other store that brings so many info for the customer that Steam, even they leave third party websites to show data about the game and its online activity, quite important for possible buyers who wants to check how alive is the game online.
Pretty sure some devs hates these stuff, giving info and control to the customer is not good for sales. AAA devs hates when people can say the game doesnt work well, isnt optimized or the netcode is crap through reviews and in the hubs. They cant behave as they do on consoles, when the info is too little and you have to rely on third party websites to check out info about the game.
So the next new store would take only 1% of revenue from devs?
Cant care less if they cant give what Steam is offering me now as a customer.
Too much caring about devs, leaving customers in the wild, good luck.

Direct selling only works if the dev is responsible.
Steam is a third party that could control the dev in the case they goes rogue and it happens often.
Its funny because youll need to waste money to drive traffic to your website and once you get tired of seeing that attending customers is a 24/7 labor youll be looking for a way to simplify the customer service, being in contact with your player base could take you time from development.
Im a website developer and I did think like this once, that my customers who works on hosting doesnt need Airbnb, Expedia or any other directory and renting service, its cool to think that way but then somehow, somewhere, you'll be hitting a wall called reality.
I understand why people distrust to reserve directly from the website of the owner of the hotel/cabin, refund and reviewing are totally controlled by the owner of the site. In this case I dont think its any different, the owner of this site can control what I can say on his site and if I dont like one of his games Ill see this love relation between customer/developer going to a end.
As a customer I can understand why people prefer to use GOG/Steam/Origin to buy, I never use dev websites to buy anything, just to inform myself about the game.

Quoting: ZapaI just want to focus more on making my games rather than trying to please Steam's algorithm or having to spend too much money on marketing and driving traffic. The whole point is to grow slow and not depend on my games performing well. I could do the same on Steam and Itch however in the long run, by doing it on my own store front, I can actually grow my own stuff and not be dependent on someone else's platform. You have to please someone else algorithm always, you have to program your game according to the OS standards and requirements. you have to do your website according what browsers ask you, etc, that sensation of freedom is just too fake unless you develop your own environment from the ground and that is almost impossible by the time required.
Ogh and keep 98% of the revenue, learn more things about marketing and be directly in contact with my customers and fan base.

Some thoughts on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s Danger Zone, the new Battle Royale mode

Also I like the tablet and the drones can be double edge sword for the players, for example if you are in a zone and other player enter your zone while you didnt check the tablet, you dont know if you are alone or there are more people in the area. Drones can be stolen or other players use them to track you, also you can use them to set traps. Also drones drop the case where ever you are, I was in a house and the drone dropped the gun in the roof, lol, I just cant get to the roof, I lost my weapon, lesson learned, another good way to make player to get out of houses.
So far so gud, with customization I like yellow suites, makes you harder to hide. I would like to buy stickers but to stick on my yellow suite instead of guns.

Quoting: x_wingI agree with most of the impressions, Liam. But I completely disagree with ammo shortage. In my opinion, if they allow more ammunition the current Danger Zone can become a shooting range, with people just moving to the highest point of the map and start snipping everything that moves.Completely agree with the shortage ammo, this makes players to crawl out of their camping corners to look for more ammo. Also you can throw melee your weapons at your opponents too to give the final blow.
I really like the idea of having low ammunition and have think twice before starting an attack. This is probably one of the reasons why CSGO pro players doesn't shine on this mode.

The drone system is a double edge sword, if someone sit and stay for the drone to come, well, that is pretty much telling others "hey, Im here, come and kill me". But contrary as you say, in the matches Im been playing, some players use them as baits, they even leave the case closed so any greed player could come to their dead.
I really like the drone system, its innovative and can be used in many ways.
Also I have run out of ammo, but the melee weapons are actually easy to use and they do a good chunk of damage so this forces players to get out of their nice and very protected spots to fight.
Nothing like Fortnite, some guy gather too much ammo, build a tower and stay the whole match in that tower, why he/she would go away when have a sniper or a SMG and plenty of ammo?
Quoting: liamdaweI haven't played any BR games, but I expected that players must always be on the run, searching for better stuff and weapons. Here, you just collect money, order lame pistols and SMGs, sit and wait for a drone. Lack of ammo doesn't sound appealing too. I was spectating a couple of matches after I died, and the remaining two players just did nothing but sitting on the same spot and looking at their tablets until the shrinking area forces them to move. Its obvious you havent played BR and Danger zone that much, you are judging the game because on two matches the remaining players, well, they decided to wait? LOL.

Valve have some serious competition, with the Epic Games Store being announced

People speak of a oligopoly, Epic launcher is pretty much that. I had to install it to play the new UT beta some years ago and I dont think Epic store will be any different.
Also to be competency of Steam you have to be more than just a store. Its easy to live on the UK or the US and pretend that these stores are competency for Steam since you receive support from these stores. You behave like elitist first world kids who got all the attention, but what for third world consumers like me?
Steam offers me games on MY currency and also give me servers to download near to my country. Which other stores does this? None.
Its easy for Liam and other people here to pretend Epic would be some kind of competency for Steam, you had your prices on dollars, euros or pounds but the rest of the world remain obscure for these stores, while Steam is selling games to penguins on fish currency.
Sorry for sound like a Valve pawn but after the promises of Origin becoming a competency for Steam, well, I dont expect nothing special anymore.
Also Valve just need to release Left 4 Dead 3 with open world elements, costumes and hats and say goodbye to Fortnite.

Completely agree with not supporting other distros than Ubuntu. Im not Ubuntu elitist but as the "too many flavors" pretext is becoming more used by some devs I prefer to have one supported version of the game on Linux than nothing.
Having a Ubuntu version playable means that it could be playable on Mint or Arch, much better than nothing.

Some people here get mad or annoyed just because some of us wants to see HL3 or L4D3. Its true, we can live without these games but not even DOTA 2 Fans asked for this card game.
And the worst thing is the obvious $$ milking model Valve uses on this game, also if they dont balance the use of powerful and rare cards this will become easily a P2W game.
I hope this flops so Valve start to consider to make a single player game but I doubt it, some kids just have much money and these kind of games is a perfect way to spend it.

Next news: Lore Finders devs ditch Linux version because "too many flavors" and "shaders on OPENGL". Just a reminder, ask devs about flavors before giving crowdfunding money.

LOL, its funny to see people happy or fine with a dev lying straight to their faces.
"At least they didnt hide", you say. So lying is any better?
So they didnt know Linux has many distros before promising a linux version?
Its obvious they use the linux thing to get more crowdfunding money, when they have to deal with reality, they just leave the boat as the rats they are.
Devs should only support Ubuntu, yeah it sound elitist, but its better so devs stop bullshitting to their backers with the "too many distros" pretext. Also having two linux distros on your computer isnt rocket science.
I recommend linux backers to ask for a refund, take that money to a more serious developer.
