An interview with the developer of DXVK, part of what makes Valve's Steam Play tick
11 Sep 2018 at 5:12 pm UTC Likes: 4

Quoting: Philip RebohleAnd I really wanted to get one specific game to work.
So... which game? :P

Quoting: Philip RebohleThere are some things that I probably wouldn't have done without them requesting it, such as adding OpenVR support [...]
Unless I'm mistaken, Beat Saber uses DirectX and OpenVR (for Vive), which means DXVK is part of what allows me to play the game on Linux with Proton. I'm quite happy with Valve's request and your work.

Set Phasers to fun! Stage 9 lets you explore the Enterprise-D from Star Trek The Next Generation on Linux

Impressive fan project!
I too hope to be playing this with SteamVR one day.

Facepunch are no longer selling the Linux version of the survival game Rust (updated)
27 Jul 2018 at 4:48 pm UTC Likes: 3

My experience with Rust on Linux was mid-June of this year.
First, it crashed, so I restarted.
Then I joined a queue to start a MP game.
After waiting for ~15 minutes to join the game, it crashed again.
Never played it again, 0.4 hrs on record.

Devil Daggers, the addictive fast-paced FPS is now on GOG

I wish I were better at playing this game.
Maybe one day I'll have the time to Git Gud.

Its visuals and audio are both superb, IMO.
Makes watching the replays (example [External Link] great.
Make sure to watch at 1080p, fullscreen.

Ion Maiden, a new 3D Realms FPS has launched in Early Access with Linux support

They really couldn't finish the game first, and have to release into Early Access, huh?
No money left to add Steam Cloud support (or Achievements)?
I'm willing to bet Voidpoint just reused a (mildly tweaked) old 3D Realms engine.
Other than the nostalgia factor, nothing about this looks appealing.
Thanks for supporting Linux, I guess. Now, can we get more real games?

It's time to bug Feral Interactive about future port requests once again
24 Jan 2018 at 3:53 pm UTC Likes: 4

Quoting: Feral InteractiveIf you could only have one new game for macOS, Linux or mobile in 2018, which one would it be?
Realistically, I'd have to pick a game from one of the publishers that Feral already works with. This excludes The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, given CD Projekt's The Witcher 2 was ported by Virtual Programming et al. From the publishers that Feral actually works with (2K, SEGA, Warner Bros., Codemasters or Square Enix), I'd pick one of the Batman games, Batman: Arkham City or Batman: Arkham Asylum.

A smarter pick might be something from a big publisher that Feral is not yet working with. Then, if a first game works out, other titles from that new publisher could potentially arrive for Linux. I'll ignore games that aren't on Windows (Bloodborne, The Last of Us, Journey, Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves). My pick would then be Skyrim, because then Linux has a link with publisher Bethesda, which means their other games (e.g. Fallout 3) are also more likely to arrive. By the same reasoning, smart picks might be stuff from EA (e.g. Mass Effect 3 (and 2) or Dead Space), Ubisoft (e.g. Assassin's Creed II) and Bandai Namco (e.g. Dark Souls).

Quoting: Feral InteractiveAnd why?
For the Batman games: Feral is already in touch with the publisher, the games have gotten good reviews from both critics and gamers, Linux is relatively short on AAA games, it's a well-known brand/hero, and they look like games I'd enjoy playing.

For Skyrim: Feral might be a big enough player to persuade Bethesda to allow porting to Linux, it would open the door for having Fallout 4 and other future Creation Engine games on Linux, the game received critical acclaim, it's on everything (including Nintendo Switch) so let's add Linux (and macOS) to the list, and I'm ready to play another open world game.

Perhaps too much a niche, but best VR game released in 2017, for me would be [The Talos Principle VR](http://store.steampowered.com/app/552440/The_Talos_Principle_VR/).
Taking control of a robot [avatar](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar_(2009_film)) to solve puzzles in such an atmospheric environment...

Sci-fi horror 'SOMA' now has an easier mode to give a different experience

Quoting: liamdaweWill this update bring you back, or did you have no trouble with it?
I am happy to read this news. I'll definitely start playing it again soon. Back in July 2016 I paid quite a bit of money to get this game but gave up [External Link] after ~1 hr; I have "1.2 hrs on record". The reason was that having to run away from the baddies and still constantly die was infuriating. It pissed me off - so much. Again, good news.

Cities: Skylines - Mass Transit DLC announced, adding more transport possibilities
28 Feb 2017 at 4:53 pm UTC

Not my kind of game. The base game, Cities: Skylines, has had a -75% sale, but you'd need to pay extra for their "Deluxe Edition", just to get a more complete experience with 5 extra historical monuments. A full experience requires DLC on top of that: 62.93 euros, plus whatever "Mass Transit" will cost. There's a bundle, but it lacks 5 o/t DLC and is still 68.20 euros. Maybe 10 years from now when the whole thing including all its DLC is 10 euros I'll pick it up.
