Jackbox Games get their engine ported to Vulkan and SDL2, try it with Jackbox Party Pack 7

Quoting: GuestThis is nice, but what their games really need is translations.
Quiplash has an interlashional edition. Me and my friends tried it but just went back to normal Quiplash2 as we found the translation took away on the flair and fun. If someone doesn't understand a question, she/he asks for help. For those games that prompt to write text, we just write german words whenever we are missing the english translation and that doesn't disturb us at all.

Quoting: EhvisI don't really see these games needing the performance that Vulkan could bring. Makes me wonder if their intent might be to go Stadia as well.
Well, Vulkan might not be needed, but why not. SDL2 is where I start to care.

Big fan of the packs and it's nice to see that they continue to care.
Actually, it's like I owe those guys for keeping me sane in these times, so I'll just buy it now :)

Quoting: LachuSomeone's told, this USB stick should contains Steam Link OS. I think, Valve should create Steam Link for Android instead.
I'm pretty sure this exists. Have it installed.

Quoting: sbolokanovHow did Steam get to where it is now? By exclusive games.
How did console X get to where it is now? By exclusive games.

The idea that user X is going to simply ditch his OS for no apparent reason is ridiculous to me.
Well, releasing exclusive games would be a much better option once they can point to an usb stick stick solution that doesn't alter the system, wouldn't it? This might be especially interesting if they plan to put pressure on apple.

Atari VCS games really are just plain Linux desktop builds

Sorry for beeing sarcastic.
It will be a big surprise if anyone will ever build an entire software stack ever again. The difference here is that Atari doesn't only grab what they can but doesn't do anything to make the ecosystem a walled garden, which is really nice.
I still doubt this system will find a big community, even less 3rd party studios in a large scale. Still wish them some success as I think this niche will get quite interesting with the next hardware generations. I really think the time for an open console generation is near, though I suspect that it will happen with ARM and a standardized implementation of Apples Rosetta hack.

I'll be waiting for similar devices featured by cm4. It feels like indy games for pi4 will get a big push in the next months and it's a shame to use such hardware only for emulation.

Quoting: soulsourceNot surprising.
The Xbox One is just a desktop Windows machine with a fancy console interface and mandatory cryptographic signatures for all executables. The PS4 is just a regular BSD with a fancy console interface and similar restrictions. Why should the Atari VCS be much different?
Thanks for your in depth analysis of current console architectures and software ecosystems. Will you hold a talk on next CCC, showing us how to run PS5 games on BSD? Looking forward to it. Year of BSD desktop.

When I checked out an earlier alpha months ago, the exact same thing happened to me. Got instantly killed as soon as I spawned.

Godot 4 on RP4 suddenly gets even more interesting. I really hope Godot 4 will include an export template for it by default. Would love to play around with it.
