7 Days to Die now has an experimental build available for Alpha 17, it's a huge difference

Quoting: g000hDoes anyone have familiarity of jumping around on versions of 7DTD ? I quite like the idea of trying out the new experimental build but don't necessarily want to lose my current game state on the stable build.

Looking at the relevant directories on my system, it looks like this is where the Save Games sit:

 ~/.local/share/7DaysToDie/

And then my main (stable) game application files are here (this is a non-default location for the Steam Library Folder):

 /home/games/steam/steamapps/common/7\ Days\ To\ Die

Would you suggest copying/archiving both of those and then installing the experimental? If I want to restore the stable version, I'd delete and over-write those folders with the stable copies?
Yes.
You can use this [External Link] to help you copy that.
Saves should remaing untouched- they are clearly visible in menu as previous, incompatible version. But backup is never a bad idea.

Delete wine-mono and mono packages
Game uses system libraries that are incompatible on newer systems
You *COULD* try overriding, but there are simply to many libraries for me to bother

I've spent a sizable portion of my career getting laughed at by developers when I tell them to take their back catalog seriously, and even customers look at me funny when they see that my AAA contract wishlist is a bunch of old-but-feasible-to-port games
I can really relate to that. I get the same looks when I talk to people about my work for ScummVM, and more recently, xoreos.

Yes, I care about the weird adventure games of an obscure French studio, thank you very much. I care about the that overlooked horror game with art by HR Giger. I care about d20 RPG games. And I wonder why so few do. They're part of our history, our culture, and it would be a shame if they were forgotten.
T thought that xoreos died! Glad to hear that it is not abandoned.

PS I just saw update notes on xoreos website- great work guys.

Some thoughts on Valve’s new Steam Play feature and what it means for Linux gaming

I'll just add few points to disscusion:
Great way to play old games (like Borderlands 1, or M&B Fire and Sword)
Will help to evaluate the risk- devs should now have more statistics to estimate cost of Linux build.
Supplementary tool for EA relases, and to avoid broken ports (ARK, Rust, 7DTD to name few that are/was broken)

Facepunch are no longer selling the Linux version of the survival game Rust (updated)

I would like to know their reasons- if you could reach to them and they are willing to share that with us

I love LVM. I 've got some fun using it. Sadly I've got only 2 drives (119GB and 890GB ) and almost 900 GB in data. And currently can't afford another one(or fit in, except M.2, but again price). On top of that- i need Windows (sadly). I'm better of setting up old hardware as nas-like server to store some of that files. I got pretty big stash of parallel ATA drives, so i'm looking to LVM to kinda sort it out. I'm pretty sure i did not throw out my old GTS450, so it could become second gaming rig ;)

PS: But knowing my laziness I'll just use Steam screen casting to play it anyway.

Regardless, thanks for tip

Quoting: mortigarWorks on Manjaro, so it should technically work on any arch distro. Just tried it!
I've asked brother, he still has VAC error on launch (Opensuse)
Still, nice to know I'm not limited to Debian-ish distros to play

*snipped the large pic*
Now that's a find!

Edit: Wait, how does the picture match to it :S
To be fair, there actually is a level in Dark Souls that looks an awful lot like the pic, the Demon Ruins.

Not sure that there's any more connection than just that, though.
It reminds me of Saint's Row Gat Out of Hell, but that game already has Linux version. So no clue either
