The best Linux distros for gaming in 2021
15 Dec 2020 at 10:56 pm UTC

I've been using PopOS for 2 years, and have not had any issues since 19.04 with the Nvidia driver issue.
I don't really play "new" games, either because I'm cheap, or because I wait for the first round of patches and hype to pass, before making a judgement on if it's worth the money.
The defaults have been reasonable, and everything works with little configuration and no trouble.
The most use my terminal has gotten is installing Glorious Egg roll version, setup RGB control, and managing my VPN.
I like that it just works, and allows me to do my basic work, research, and play games.
I'm not a "Linux Fan", I'm just a computer user that values my time and privacy

I got this on the Switch so I can play on the go.
I haven't gotten far, but it's been an amazing experience.
Due to the music/atmosphere, saving mechanic, and limited resources, I have the same fun scary anxiety that resident evil on the GameCube gave me.

Quoting: jarl.arntzenPlayed through all of it yesterday. The game is an absolute delight. Do not get deterred by the seeming slow start. It picks up the pace and takes a left turn into humorous Nancy Drew land.

Really worth it. ^_^
Thank you, I just purchased this game because "humorous Nancy Drew land".
I just could not pass up that experience, and I'm looking forward to it this weekend.

Quoting: KijBetaIt took a characterization of his remarks in a disturbing twisted way to finally get rid of him.
But his real remarks, and harassment should have been enough to get rid of him 20 years ago.
It's been more than 20 years of disturbing sexual, harassing, and disparaging remarks made by him.
Honestly never should have gotten to this point, he should have been removed and fired many many years ago.

The truly disturbing part is that people, are acting like the BS that went down in the news cycle means he did nothing wrong.
It's okay to appreciate his work and devotion to the Free Software Movement, and still not want him to be celebrated due to his sexual harassment, and disturbing ideas that got ignored for years due to the culture he was a part of.
RMS harassed other people? What did he do to others? Is there any source on that? And what do you mean with "culture he was part of"? What kind of culture?
Back in 2006, at a conference a young woman asked about changes happening and the implications of the "business" on a GNU project he had some kind of personal interest in.
His response was something about her being a dumb blond, and later implied that she won't get far if she is not showing more of her body and other skills. This would be laughed at by most of the men. At that same place he would make a graphic comment about sex and a specific thing that had to do with coding.
Why would any of this ever have a "source"? There was no reason for the people that condoned that kind of BS to make it into a news story, par for the course.
He also has a long history of insulting people who don't share his absolutist position, ad sharing opinions that are not appropriate in any public place.
He should not have ever been allowed to be a spokesperson with any power, due to his unfiltered personal skills.

I respect his passion, and his drive to make the world a better place, and improve the Free Software Movement.
But he is a terrible person, who never should have been given a position of power and influence.
My opinion is based on one moment, and what could easily be dismissed as gossip, but it has a solid foundation for me to believe most of the disgusting things he said and did for much of his life.

The final transition was simultaneously more difficult and much easier than I thought it would be.

Canonical are now saying Ubuntu's 32bit is not being entirely dropped, 32bit libraries will be "frozen"

I feel like proper planning and timelines would have prevented the confusion, complaints, and hundreds of posts about people looking to replace Ubuntu on their desktop, creating a lot of bad press.
IMHO the impression that Ubuntu is nolonger a reliable desktop system standard has been seeded, and I don't think it's going to be the "default desktop" for much longer. I hope the community as a whole can find a better way forward than relying on Canonical/Ubuntu to develop a base for gaming.

What are you playing this weekend and what do you think about it? It's mostly Dota Underlords for me

This weekend I'll be putting some time into Oxygen Not Included, and I'll make some more progress on Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (Amazing performance with zero effort thanks to Steam/Proton).

I have been feeling a bit smug and happy with my self about switching to POP!_OS before the Ubuntu 32bit blowup.

Quoting: ShaoluHoly cow that was a lot longer than I originally intended. I get too verbose when I'm tired. Okay, going to bed now @_@
That should have just been an opinion piece, it was interesting to read your view on the situation.
