Its about platforms, CD VHS MP3 are all different media platforms that can run on different devices. WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HERE IS PC, PC is NOT multiple platforms, it is ONE! GET IT? I hope so.

But like I said I wouldn't have a issue paying a DLC cost for certain games, but I can see peoples arguments where if EVERY developer did the whole PAY DOUBLE for Linux thing then it will basically kill the chances for the OS in the future. You can expect lots of complaints and refunds to be had. BIG mess!

If they release a SkyrimSE/Fallout4/GTA5/Witcher3 on Linux and ask for a reasonable price then I would be OK with paying again if that's what it takes. But again, at a reasonable price point!!!!

But in all honestly I have very limited funds and I'm sure many others do so buying 2 PC copies for every game isn't practical and will likely result in my just not buying many games and sticking to the ones I already have available. But those 4 above I would make an exception if need be.

Buying Linux support as a DLC option is fine imo.

Basically it seems any game that works with Vulkan will work mostly flawlessly under Wine/Vulkan with a 1:1 performance ratio if Doom4 results are to be considered the norm. The only issue would be copy protection perhaps? I think it would be great if developers just bundle up a wine wrapper with their vulkan releases and put it on steamos/linux in such case. (given the parity in performance).

Most videocards come with a driver disc or warning on the box to get latest drivers from a website. Now for NVIDIA that isn't so bad as they have Linux drivers out there for you to easily see and they ARE the latest, provided the user doesn't get blackscreen upon install (very common), and is able to figure out howto install them from bash (annoying for new users).

AMD's website will cause you to find the OLD fglrx drivers for Linux which will give you a rather frustrating experience to say the least.

You assume they should know about PPA usage at the start, when its not mentioned anywhere upon installing most Ubuntu distro's. PPA could mean anything.

Most people don't know to do that, which is why Linux gets such a bad rep, they come, try it out and notice its terrible and leave even thought the distro is rolling OLD broken mesa among other things in the repository. At least for AMD users, if NVIDIA users can get past the black screen and full composition issue then their fine.

Surprised they even bother having FGLRX.. I thought they moved onto the amdgpu-pro ages ago? Also isn't MESA a better option now minus vulkan that is?
