Dave Airlie has been working on an AMD Vulkan driver

The AMDGPU-PRO driver is also limited in the type of WindowManager it works on (not all work), AND games that run with it ('most' Feral game ports don't work off the bat). Both issues are solvable but I don't know if AMD is paying attention to them (they certainly know about these issues).

You can play controversial FPS 'Daikatana' on Linux now, thanks to a fan patch endorsed by John Romero

He really should have replaced those frogs and flies with Samurai warriors of sorts. Think the biggest complaint was the game was almost all flies and frogs. LOL

System Shock Pre-Alpha Demo now available on Linux, nearing stretch goal

Unity engine has gotta allot better for under Linux, it does have active support unlike other game engines that get once off patches and everyone has to cope (looking at Unreal engine, and whatever CoH2 uses)

System Shock Pre-Alpha Demo now available on Linux, nearing stretch goal

Ok, I put my $30 support in for this, pretty sure they can make that stretch goal. I liked the fact they made it a priority stretch goal instead of doing what other companies do, that is putting it at 500k-1m WAY down the stretch-list making it almost impossible to achieve. Thumbs-up for System Shock fellas for not doing that!

The curious tale of vanishing Linux & SteamOS ports, a status on a few of them
18 Jul 2016 at 9:16 pm UTC

I'm hoping that once Vulkan API starts winning against DX12 and we see more support for it then we will also see more interest in making ports happen for Linux. Any company that spends all their time making DX12 for their game is NOT going to care about Linux.

Vulkan has the advantage of older Windows version support so I think it has a REAL damn good shot of becoming the king, the only way MS can stop that happening is release DX12 for older versions of Windows which we all know they will never do given how sneaky and hard they have been forcing Windows10 on people (they love their back-doors and telemetry data don't they!)

Dear Valve and Steam Machines OEMs, you have it all wrong
12 Jul 2016 at 7:44 pm UTC

Intel and NVIDIA being the only option for Steam Machines has pretty much kept them a failure for quite some time. I don't think I have seen a single steam machine offer a single AMD transistor!

Of cause that is partly due to AMD's broken driver history and dated hardware options. Think we will half to wait a good 6-12months before the smoke clears, until we can finally figure out if Steam Machines and SteamOS are going to have a future. If everything is still a shitstorm in another 12months, well .... FAIL

Quoting: wojtek88looks like a good deal.
Its below console spec. Buy a PS4 or XB1.. profit.

See this adapter? see the image? that is what they should have used, less components and compat. Also allows for upgrading.

I was talking about the PCIe cards, you know, gpu on a pcb mini board. Not sure if that is whats happening here but not long ago they were talking about how they got a standard 980gtx running in a laptop fine. NOT USB ADAPTER.

What your suggesting will add $200 to the price tag, kinda pointless.

You talking about those graphics cards on a pcie stick things laptops use? Yeah that would be a good solution for steam machines...

960? Come ON! the 1060 is out, at least have that in it! And I agree a I7 is a bit high end for JUST a gaming rig, i5 4core is plenty. I would say go AMD, but they haven't got their Zen shit together yet and we don't know if that will be cheaper or not.
