They could have easily included BOTH options!

Well NVIDIA might have some MUSCLE in forcing HDMI2.1 license changes, or they already did so and it just isn't public yet.

I've been real BUMMED out since I found out my 6800xt can't do RGB444 120hz with VRR (hdmi2.1 essentially) under Linux. Basically means I'll probably be skipping RDNA3 until this all gets resolved;

I don't just buy $2000+ every year like some people may if things don't work out.
This C1 is here to stay until death! So HDMI2.1 needs to work sadly, even if its not MESA/AMD's fault at end of day.

I kind of wish they just added in a separate copper PIN alignment on the bottom of the deck to support a drop in compatibility instead of using a cable.

It can be done btw without getting in the way of anything since its just extremely low profile copper contacts the dock could have pushup pins into.

I might need to switch to a NVIDIA card since I just found out my AMD card is not ALLOWED to do HDMI2.1.
I was running ycb420 this whole time thinking it was RGB, lmao.

The HDMI2.1 standard needs more open minded people running the show!

NVIDIA reveal a list of issues with their driver and Wayland

Quoting: 14Still, "trash" is pretty harsh for something that overall does work reliably in my experience.
Maybe if you actually USED Wayland as for power desktop and gaming needs then you will think differently.

Pretty much ALL desktop environments work pretty good if you do very light desktop stuff and minimal gaming!

Maybe a bit of dynamic tessellation could uplift the graphics allot? (on some objects)

I get/got that issue with my 6800XT. If I let the screen suspend for too long often it won't wake up.
Just a broken Linux thing.

I have XANMOD kernel. Trust me its just wayland struggling to smoothly draw frames on the screen. I know exactly what its doing wrong but no idea how to fix it.

I can generate the same issue on X11 in certain games if I enable my second monitor. Yes I know they fixed that sync issue while ago with a xorg conf but its still a issue for some titles.

Quoting: melkemindYou mean until Nvidia catches up, right?
Nope, I have a 6800XT and Wayland overall is a mess, BAD desktop experience.
If things don't crash freeze on you, they have config or font dpi issues, or you need to edit DIFFERENT things to get DPI or font things fixed. OR you discover many of your backend tools you enjoyed and used in X11 will simply not work, and there is no substitute under wayland.

The list of little issues that add up to a MASSIVE HEADACHE keeps going on and on... Sorry, no sell for me! I actually need a functional desktop environment!

Doesn't help that every game I try on Wayland the frame pacing and performance is just terrible, Imagine playing a game at 100fps but it feels like 20!!!!

Performance

Freesync is only available on Primary screen. IN saying that freesync is the magic bullet to fix these types of issues and games should still be relatively smooth even without vsync.

Wish amdgpu would introduce fastsync or whatever AMD Utilities has under Windows.

I use ARCH but this list sums up Wayland issue.
It's going to need much more support to become a standard;

I do know there is a selection of blank canvas WM that use wlroots such as Sway and Wayfire but those require HEAVY amount of customisation to become a actually fully fledged usable desktop environment, and even still have lots of missing features. (and aren't stable)
