Ultimate General: Civil War, the tactical war-game will come to Linux
20 Nov 2016 at 5:33 pm UTC

Quoting: Nor MantisI would not say its a "grand" strategy game. It is just battles or scenarios. It is a lot lighter than Paradox games or even Civ in my opinion. No empire building, or moving armies on a large map, just battles. In Gettysburg the armies are predetermined and you must win or loose then move to the next scenario. But this game does add some depth compared to Gettysburg.
That's why it is a tactical war game, not a strategic one nor it tries to be one. What it lacks in scope it makes up in depth.

Quoting: manero666I still need to play the Penumbra series, then I will surely buy SOMA, which looks absolutely great!!
I first played Amnesia Dark Descent and Machine for Pigs. Afterwards, Penumbra unfortunately didn't cut in anymore.
The Penumbra series had aged pretty bad as the amateur graphic was already behind the times, but story and atmosphere side I think it's still their best work.

The open source Mesa driver for Intel graphics finally reaches OpenGL 4

Haswell supports OpenGL 4.3 on Windows, yet OpenGL 4.0 is limited to Broadwell and up on Mesa at the moment. I hope they plan to extend the support to older generations in future releases.

Among the Sleep updated to Unity 5, my final thoughts on this unique horror experience
20 Apr 2016 at 11:24 pm UTC

I played it back in the day in Linux without problems. The performance wasn't the best and the graphics suffered from the dated engine, but it was perfectly playable and it didn't crash in the entire duration of the game. The upgrade to Unity 5 will really benefit this one.

About the game itself, it didn't have the best puzzles but the story was one of the best I've seen in a game while trying to be pretentious or epic in the least. Also, I was kinda disappointed by the lack of animations in the avatar's body. I wish you could see the toddler picking things and opening doors with his little hands, I just love embodiment in games.

Valve have released the CAD geometry for the Steam Controller
25 Mar 2016 at 2:09 am UTC

Quoting: LeviPretty cool that valve kept their promise and released the models to the public. I wonder, under which license do they publish them? I do not see any mention of a license in the source, I hope that it'll be something like creative commons [External Link] to allow everyone to profit from it.
Considering their usual approach, a new Steam Store section dedicated to make to order Steam controller pieces designed by the community would be more likely. But with that kind of small-scale production and the relatively large shipping costs, I don't think it would be a feasible business model when 3D printing is starting to be commonplace.

Offworld Trading Company looks like it may come to Linux

I'm hoping this will end not being just a rumor. Offworld is one of the most interesting simulation games that had been out recently.

Valve will be at GDC talking about Practical Development for Vulkan
28 Feb 2016 at 6:22 pm UTC

Quoting: vulturecolor me blind here, but what is Unity guy doing here talking about practical use?

as far as it was told not so long ago, they haven't even started it. Epic on the other hand is demoing working Vulkan in Unreal for S7
They are probably interested now that it is out and will work out of the box in future Android devices. They never said they weren't going to work with it, they just saw no point on doing porting work before the specification was even complete.

Quoting: adolsonThat screenshot doesn't make it look very exciting. Guess I'll have to go find a trailer or something. lol
It's hard to make a turn-based 4x strategy game look "exciting" in a screenshot. Look at the screenshots for Civilization V. It looks pretty dull, but it's one of the greatest games ever made.
I love Civ V. You can find screenshots of strategy games that look at least a little bit exciting. Example, http://masteroforion.com/media/21 [External Link] Anyhow, I looked into this more and have wishlisted it. I never played any of the previous games.
That jump system looks really sweet.
