...once again we have a vendor going with Windows 11.
That's enough reading for me.

Pillars of Eternity from Obsidian has a new patch coming nearly 9 years after release

I was supposed to love PoE. Maybe I chose a bad class or missed some really helpful things in the beginning... it was the annoying and frustrating type of hard and not the "oh, I got this next time" kind of hard. I gave up on it and never bought the 2nd game since I didn't finish the first.

I have a mental list of single-player games I won't buy even though I want to play them because I just don't finish them quickly enough. I'm a co-op guy.

Palworld is Pokémon with guns, farming, survival and building - I'm quite excited

I am not into the graphic style, but the gameplay looks fun... I think I'll watch some gameplay on Twitch after it comes out and see what it looks like.

I'm going to call this "Ayyyy, Neo!"

I'm impressed at the pricing, and the specs seem good. It's pretty competitive.

Linux Mint 21.3 released with Cinnamon 6.0 and experimental Wayland support

Quoting: BlackBloodRumI can't share my wallpaper for uh, reasons. But anyway, I thought everyone changed their wallpaper anyway?

Does anyone actually use the OS's default wallpaper, without changing it?
I keep zero icons on my desktop, and I like wallpapers. I subscribe to gamewallpapers.com and have over 800 images that Plasma rotates on a daily basis.

Linux use on Steam ends 2023 with a multi-year high (thanks Steam Deck)

Quoting: Mountain ManNow we just need to convince everyone using a Steam Deck to ditch Windows and install Linux on their desktops because they're already using Linux.
Ha, just pick a 'proper' Linux distribution. PopOS was one for me... until I attempted to update some old install on a laptop I sold to some friends for cheap. PopOS ate itself in a spectacular way! Back to Debian for you! On that note; seems every new Debian release there are less and less things I have to tweak post-install for it to work the way I want it to. And at this point it's mostly just installing ublock on Firefox and changing it's default search engine away from Google.
Sounds like you should start backing up your Firefox profile. ;)

Ray-Tracing performance uplift coming to the AMD RADV Linux graphics driver

Anyone enjoying ray tracing right now? It's not something I've tinkered with with the exception of Minecraft.

Baldur's Gate 3 wins Game of the Year in the 2023 Steam Awards
6 Jan 2024 at 4:17 pm UTC

Huh, the Steam awards this year are so weird (except BG3), that their legitimacy is a little questionable. Not as bad as Goodread's Reader's Choice Awards yet -- those are so bad I don't know why they exist -- but I'm starting to doubt the Steam awards now.

When I saw the RDR2 award, I was so surprised that I went and looked at all their Steam news announcements over the year. It didn't line up.

Hogwarts makes some sense in the fact it's in the top 50 played games on Steamdb right now with most of the more-played games being released in years prior to 2023.

I know it's a joke, but I must admit I'm curious about the state of gaming on BSD - it's a subject that I know absolutely nothing about!
It's terrible. In fact, software usage on a desktop environment in general is a really bad experience on BSD period.

KDE Plasma 6 hits initial funding goal
6 Jan 2024 at 3:59 pm UTC Likes: 1

I'm happy to see people mention donations. I also do some to KDE from time to time. If you work at a large company, you should see if they do charity matching. There are some open source orgs that are filed as non-profits and can get approved for a donation matching program. $10/mo turns into $20/mo, and is a lot more than $0/yr if you weren't giving anything previously. It's also convenient and not something you have to feel bad about forgetting if it's recurring.

As far as Plasma 6 goes, I'm hoping its release will be the Wayland milestone for me and I switch to it for regular use on my desktop. Wayland has been good on the laptop for at least a year, but some unpleasant things were on the desktop. I'm hoping I can say goodbye to X11 with Plasma 6.
