Beamdog just gave Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition a big graphical boost

Quoting: mosInfinity (and probably NWN too) aren't real-time. they're turn-based
I'd take the advice of DrMcCoy on that one. I agree that there's the concept of combat rounds which affect the attacks, but movement doesn't follow that closely (in or out of combat). I'd read that it would be impossible to properly alter NWN to have a turn-based mode because of this. Don't get me wrong: I'd much prefer that as there's not even a decent autopause system in NWN.

I think it is fair to say that if you don't like D&D mechanics and real time with pause combat, you're not going to like a game employing D&D mechanics and real time with pause combat. I'm not so sure why you feel so compelled to rain on everyone else, though.

I'm a latecomer to this game and have now become slightly obsessed. Both the official DLCs and the community content have been awesome, despite the creaky old engine. Hopefully some of the polish in this patch will round off the edges.

As usual, sadly, GOG are lagging behind with this for their non-Galaxy standalone installers. I've been itching to try this one. GOG teaches linux gamers patience.

What a great review, BTRE. I was planning on holding off buying this due to the dog's dinner of Imperator Rome on release day, but your enthusiasm is breaking my resistance :)

Great to see this. I've become quite obsessed with this game recently. I wish the pathing improvements had been implemented before I played through Tyrants of the Moonsea as the amount of clutter on the floors made pathing very frustrating.

To answer some of the above questions, there are lots of multiplayer servers online so the community still looks to be quite large. I have no idea if the community is still producing many new modules, but the archive of modules is so vast it'd take many lifetimes to play what is there already. The quality of the premium modules has been high, too, so hopefully we'll be seeing more on the way.

I just finished the Tyrants of the Moonsea DLC for Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition at the weekend. It was the best RPG I've played since Pillars of Eternity. There's no getting away from the fact that the underlying engine is frustratingly clunky (and Beamdog seem to have abandoned their promises to improve it) but it was a fun ride to the Epic levels. Base game and DLC for under 8 quid is worth checking out, in my opinion.

Slightly excited about this, but the minimum system requirements are beyond the capabilities of my potato. Maybe it is time to upgrade if I can't even run an adventure game!

Quoting: TheSHEEEPAnd don't even get me started on the hoops you have to jump through just to not have your realm fall apart if you are stuck with Gavelkind.
On one hand, they want it to be historically accurate, but on the other hand, all that leads to is you killing off all your sons after the first (or killing off your spouse after the first son). Pretty dark comedy, there...
For me, wrestling gavelkind is the whole core of the game! Without it, CK2 just becomes a slow-paced map painter. There are several mechanics in there to help direct succession without resorting to murder but the whole fun of the experience is that they're difficult, slow and brittle. Very much like the historical situation. I think this is why I prefer CK2 to EU. I hope CK3 keeps its own identity in this way.
