Ubuntu 24.10, Kubuntu 24.10 and other Linux flavours now officially released

Quoting: StellaI'm confused. Is that the LTS release? Does this mean I can now get Plasma 6 with Kubuntu 24? I tHought it always took longer for things to arrive in the LTS branch
It's probably also because Plamsa 5 is officially no longer supported upstream at all. Thus, anyone wishing to keep it 'alive' has to maintain it themselves. My guess is the ubuntu guys didn't want that extra work.

Which is fair, since I upgraded its been working fine, no real issues other tha

Used them a few times, good store so far! I got me Race Driver: GRID (Original grid) that was DRM free and had a bunch of fixes (Just as well, can't buy it anymore!), along side FO:UC. Can't complain! Both have worked great!

Quoting: ElectricPrismThis really is basically a Proton Space-Suit, allowing containerizing the whole Game and Proton to be used elsewhere.

Did I get that right?

I agree with the sentiments above ^^^ I will always love Valve and Steam but we need to be able to play our purchases offline and without Steam. We can still do all our purchasing, friends, community, discussion, achievements and searching on Steam but just have the freedom to be offline.

Another banger by Penguin tanks and madlads, much respect, much props.
Yes and no:
- No: This does nothing to give you the ability to play steam games offline, on it's own - at least not without other methods I cannot mention here.
- Yes: Games which are not bound by steam will give you the same level of quality / compatibility you would otherwise have had you used steam and their steam proton to begin with.
You know you sound like a story villain mentor.
"Methods I can't mention here", "bound by steam" and "This does nothing to give you the ability to".
Haha.

God of War Ragnarök released and Steam Deck Verified, needs a launch option for Desktop Linux

I've just found this article.... like holy crap how did I miss a GOW release?

As a self confessed GOW fan.. I'm shocked this one went entirely under my radar. :dizzy:

Anyhow, downloading now! Glad to see it has Steam deck support which is somewhat surprising considering it was initially released with 8GB VRAM requirement (failed to launch on anything less), but patch 2 fixed that.

The Windows version will have Denuvo Anti-tamper, which doesn't actually have Linux support, so it's likely again the Linux version will not have Denuvo. Additionally, there's no launcher this time around but the game does require a 2K Account for online interactions (but not for offline play).
That sounds a little iffy. I think I'll wait until they remove Denuvo, even if the Linux version doesn't have it. Plus, I want to wait to be sure I can play the offline mode without ever creating or using that 2K account. This is where I get torn between two places: 1) I want to support developers who make games for Linux (cool!) 2) I really don't want to support anti-consumer practices.

Let's hope it gets removed at some point.

More info on the Valve (Steam) collab with Arch Linux and potential future hardware support

Quoting: BlackBloodRumThis is actually good news for Arch. I mean the benefits are very real here, all around. I know some Arch users are worrying over this, but I really don't think they should.

If I had to guess, this is preparation for Steam Deck 2? or perhaps a new SteamOS? Maybe preperation for making SteamOS an OS for anything? Something is happening either way, and with a bit of luck it'll provide that nice easy to use OS we can point all new users to and say "Use this, it works out the box for most things" as opposed to having to say "For nvidia try this distro, for amd try this one, oh and if you need this, try that distro over there, etc.
most likely preparation for the deckard since there are secret ARM builds of VR Games inside Steam that are non accessible at the moment and the only reason we know this is because of SteamDB
Not going to lie, I entirely forgot about VR in general in this case.
