ARK: Survival Evolved gains a paid DLC while still being in Early Access, reviews are destroying it

Quoting: skinnyrafThere were some graphical glitches like flares or endless shadows, but the game is improving - or perhaps Nvidia drivers are improving?
Have you actually seen recent improvements in the domain of glitches or performance ? Or just other kind of improvements in general. I happily sunk a number of hours into the game, but calling it "finished" in the state it was in, would be very bold.

OpenMW 0.40 released, playing Morrowind on Linux natively gets closer to perfection

I have fond memories of MW too, but in 2016, I could not get myself to enjoy OpenMW, however close to "perfection" it is. The interface is just too clunky.

Darkest Dungeon updated, has some needed Linux fixes

Enjoying it too, and hadn't noticed any problem so far either. It runs more smoothly and feels more polished than any other game.

In my book "compilation errors" prevent you from delivering running software, so it's cool they fixed that :)

Developer of 'Undertale' will apparently have another go at making a Linux port
11 Jul 2016 at 1:02 pm UTC

We have no way to verify this is really from the developer, so hopefully it is true.
For me the honest tone ("nothing has really happened"etc) is almost proof that this is not some marketing bullshit :)

Kerbal Space Program 1.1 released, updated to Unity5, new interface, new tutorials and more
25 Apr 2016 at 2:36 pm UTC

More than 1000 hours (probably a lot more, I stopped counting when starting to use out-of-steam installs). I love the game (obviously), but the technical and usability deficiencies are a huge shame. I was also disappointed by this 1.1 update (it's stuttering and crashing more than ever).

Still, it's definitely worth a second try (unless you fear for your sleep). I suggest going for career mode, instead of sandbox: parts will become available more gradually, and you'll have time to get to know and appreciate them (just be careful and do NOT unlock planes stuff, as this won't help you go to space and gain more science).

ARK: Survival Of The Fittest the free online survival arena is now on Linux & SteamOS

Quoting: adolsonFixing bugs and optimizing performance are two different things. Are you actually a developer with any kind of understanding of game development, or are you just angry because the game chugs on your system?
I'm actually a developer. More sad than angry at how ARK evolved (there's a lot of games to be played out there). Admittedly not into games that much, but things look awfully similar to any software project. Keeping a clean code base is what allows you to both fix (or keep away) bugs, and also optimize easily. I know it's not a classic view and the "games are special" mantra is strong, but I'm still not convinced personally :)

Quoting: fagnerlnI haven't played, but look like that isn't optimized even on Windows.
Why would it be? It's still in Early Access.
The model: "piss code for months until your drown under bugs, then magically fix everything in 2 weeks" (pardon the words) does not seem to work very often in any kind software project.

Does it have the same performance and ... correctness as the original ARK ?

7 Days to Die still has broken graphics on Linux, developers seeking logs to help
8 Apr 2016 at 9:03 am UTC Likes: 1

If it's broken on all Linuxes, they could just install one and reproduce the problem, like devs are supposed to do. This way they'll have all the logs they want, without bothering users.

The Witness may one day see a Linux port, for fun or for ideological purposes
5 Apr 2016 at 6:53 am UTC

it was even directly in the Ubuntu Software Centre
I think this just means that they made some extra efforts to package it for the USC (no idea how big a deal that is).

I prefer his honesty with "ideological reasons" than the usual "we're definitely thinking very hard about a Linux version" bullshit (soon followed by results showing the poor extend of said thinking).
Of course I'll wait for signs that it works before buying :) But Braid was a nice game and worked, so there's hope.
