Dwarf Fortress is more beautiful imho. My second-last embark was in a mountain biome, and it was just stunning to see dozens of ASCII flowers start to bloom in spring.

If I may make a suggestion: It would be awesome if the article would include links to shop pages for the games mentioned (where applicable).
I'd consider this a win-win-win addition, as readers could directly go the the store pages for a game they are interested in, stores would get additional customers, and you would get some money through affiliate links.

The super sweet survival and base-builder 'MewnBase' is now on Steam

I have to disagree. Survival games need neither story nor multiplayer, if they are done right. Sadly the only survival game I consider done right is Unreal World...

NVIDIA have now made PhysX open source

Quoting: soulsourceNevertheless, I just recently installed it via the unofficial Gentoo ebuilds [External Link], and I must say, that it indeed ROCks.
Just got me a RX 580 and was sad to learn that I can't use ROCm because ... they think my i7 2600k Sandy Bridge is too old!
So OpenCL on my GPU does not work because of my CPU
That leaves me with Clover and OpenCL 1.1, worse than with my old Nvidia Card before, not exactly what I was expecting...
To be fair, it's not that they "think" it's too old, it lacks a feature required by ROCm on older GPUs. If it were a Vega GPU, it would work with that CPU ( https://rocm.github.io/ROCmInstall.html#supported-cpus [External Link] ).

Probably it would be possible to work around that lacking feature though. I guess that they simply don't have a budget for that...

Quoting: GuestAnd I had trouble with Mesa's OpenCL implementation, which is a shame.
Mesa's Clover OpenCL state tracker is a bit outdated. The main reason is that AMD is now focusing on their ROCm [External Link] platform, which sadly is not yet 100% open source. It currently needs some closed source components for OpenCL image support, but AMD said that those components will either be open sourced or replaced in the near future.
Nevertheless, I just recently installed it via the unofficial Gentoo ebuilds [External Link], and I must say, that it indeed ROCks.

Hmmm, I once wanted to make a game exactly like this. Well, obviously someone else had the same idea...
Anyhow, insta-bought :D

Spellcaster University will have you build a university of mages, will support Linux
17 Nov 2018 at 1:10 pm UTC

I fully agree. In my opinion, that they announce that the Linux version will have some delay should ring an alarm bell. My own experience as a developer is that you either support all platforms from the start, or you end up with a tremendous amount of extra work (which you could have easily avoided nearly completely by making a nightly build for each supported platform and smoke-testing that every few days)...
That they do not plan a simultaneous release hints that they are not going to work with Linux as supported platform from the beginning, but that they plan to port their game after finishing the Windows version. At this point it might happen, that they just decide it's not worth the time and money to do the Linux port at all. :(

Aspyr Media are getting a little help from Intel for the long-delayed Linux patch to Civilization VI

As an AMD user (of course radeonsi) I never had any issues with both, Civ 5 and 6. Yes, the FPS in Civ 6 could be better, but it's turn based, so I don't really see an issue if it's slightly stuttering.
