Valve updates Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for French players to deal with loot boxes
2 Oct 2019 at 5:25 pm UTC

Quoting: orochi_kyothis was done just to adapt to ridiculous laws on France.
Literally don't know the "problematic" law and still talk shit about it. That's pretty bonkers.

Quoting: orochi_kyoIf gaming industry needs regulation is the labor part with many people working a lot of time with ridiculous timelines to finish the job, but no politician is doing anything for it, they just want tax shit to keep stealing public funds.
Not understanding that this is actually regulated in France but the problem is that we need plaintiffs (which the game industry manage to strongarm out, because work relations are everything there: who is going to hire people that may sue you when you apply the same bullshit) and that by the way the Prud'hommes (the work-related court) works, it take ages anyway. And the recent political meddling with the Code du Travail make you want the government to stay the fuck away from the laws already in place (because they fucking mutilated it, but that's virtually the only thing the politics did with it over the last 30 years. So, if you want to complain about work-related regulation, France was fucking light years away from not having those, now only miles away, but that is still regulated).

And for y'all people that don't get the way the law work here in France: doing those shenanigans may actually doom Valve's appeal.

Depending on the judge's perception, that very action could be seen as trying to wriggle out of the problem without solving it. Because they likely are doing it on the letter of the law, which isn't the way most cases are proceeded in France (while not perfect, there is an emphasis on the spirit of the law).

Now, I do disagree with that being a solution anyway for the lootboxes. It still relay on an account determining what roll of the boxes you'll get and anyway fuck you if you want anything specific. It's just seems like a fancier way to do that than the way Belgium and Netherlands' dota boxes work (they show what item you'll get, but those items being bound to your account stick you into having to get it).

And battlepasses aren't a goto solution if what is put in it isn't actually worked out, look at the Dota battlepass that just involve a shitload of lootboxes. It is possible to do a good battlepass that isn't a bunch of crap bundled, but it'd likely revolve around the baseline of not having lootboxes from the get go.

A slow-ish game, indeed, but it's more about doing things when you are supposed to and actually planing them at the right time than the game being slow by itself for no real reason. Like sure you can speed up, but if you don't actually plan and act according to that plan, you'll hit things and start spinning around for ever. It's more about finesse than reactivity.

The game feels amazing on a Steam Pad, sure you mostly use the assisted piloting but it's really nice to play it that way.

Now, I'm waiting to see if it get the Atomic Rockets Seal of Approval.

Zachtronics latest game "Eliza", is a Visual Novel that involves an AI counselling program

A Zachtronics game? Sign me... Wait it's a Visual Novel... I don't know, I'm in I guess. I mean they have some excellent records and games, but I've like 3 games from them that I should complete first (didn't touched yet Opus Magnum, and EXAPUNKS and still didn't finished ShenzhenI/O)

Well, I guess as long as the game doesn't provoke a PR meltdown I'll get it. (It's not about the PR, but usual PR meltdown start with some things being really off, like that StarWars Lootboxes one)

The in-development medieval RPG "Donensbourgh" had a huge upgrade recently

While I'm curious about it, I'd like to see more people, it's weird, all the empty screen shot without people. But otherwise, I do have to say the game is interesting. I just hope they can avoid the pitfall of something Dear Esther (especially since they call it a RPG)

Quoting: chepatiUnfortunately, any medieval game that doesn't include warfare and death is by definition unrealistic.
Put it simply: things like the Crusades, or latter the French Wars of Religion are periods-defining events, but they aren't the average of that time, think about World Wars, they aren't your average wars. And things like the Albigensian Crusade and the way it is spread across 20 years.

You should think of it with 2 specific factors: seasons and distances. For warrings lords, you had to get shit done quick and shortly because you had other things to do (ie harvests), so you wanted some quick money, nothing long (hence the very small number of actual sieges), and something like the Albigensian Crusade for someone of the County of Flanders would be like the Gulf War for the USA without the TV, papers and the internet.

In other words: living during the 13th century and never seeing a conflict itself was likely doable. Never seeing more than a handful of assess shitting their pants thinking about a fight that may or may not happen was less likely. But again, it's within a lifetime.

Quoting: SylvesterInkIn my experience, the nicer you are, the more often you get matched with nice players.
There is a direct score called behaviour score that make that happen more easily. But it's not fool-proof and people like me that can lose it during a game, and still have 8k-9k (max 10k) of behaviour score.

The thing is that since you can mute people, while the behaviour score vary widly if you are a dick / abandon games, what matter most is focusing on playing the game (so reports are less heavy than abandoning a game), it's not perfect, but it's something already, and since you win back that score by the number of game you play rather than the commands, it's harder to get it back up.

Hold up. Why is there the national motto of France, in Russian [External Link] (damn, my russian is bad, but knowing свобода and брат was a dead give away)

That being said. I guess I could dig it, seems pretty different form what I expected the image to be about. But I think I can dig the idea.

Quoting: MalThough imho Riot (League of Legends) approach on the matter is less clamorous but more enlightened.
It's a wild and kinda unruly topic. there is a recurring problem of money for the T2/T3 Dota scene. But LoL's league system is problematic too, it's a brand based one (versus a lot of the player focused one in Dota), which engage people for a lot of time (if you look at someone like Zai, who decided to finish school and then hopped back into the scene the same year, it's a lot less doable in a league system -all leagues, not just LoL-).

Just to say the League based àla League is problematic too (and doesn't prevent the mismanagement of teams and people not getting paid). The good part is that the community seems again divided (which mean, some things may happen from Valve): a good idea seems to input a bit more money toward openquals finalists.

I personally think that putting a bit of that heaviness of the top of the prizepool toward the t2 and t3 scene would be a great point to start, without attacking the player-focused team formation (that being said: that player focus is one of the reason the brands steer away from Dota).

You can find Dota 2 free on Steam.
I'm pretty sure a crack addiction is cheaper than Dota. Love the game, but man, sometimes I wish I'd forget.

What have you been playing and what are your thoughts?

I'm trying to wrap up Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines [External Link] which is an amazing game a friend recommended me years ago and finally got myself into it and it's an amazing cRPG (except the combat, which kinda sucks but it's almost a given for a 3D RPG of the 2000's), and I got to be honest, it's hyping me slowly to Vampire Bloodlines 2. That said, (Pardon my french) fuck the museum mission.

And I've been playing E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy [External Link], FPS / RPG that I think I'll always recommend now, but that is not for everybody. But hear me right: it's a RPG where the story can be put to the background. The game is an RPG in the way you can powerup. On that, it's good, really, really absolutely fucking great. On many other aspects, calling it utterly broken (introduction, tutorials, balance) would be underplaying it. It's one of those games where you have to keep going head on even if you feel like you are against a wall. Hard locking is almost impossible, but soft locking is almost a given when you play the first 15 hours. Then you can be the cyber-psychic-super-soldier/ninja all the modern power trip based RPG of this decade want to give to the players [External Link].

And it's scratching the surface (but at the same time, it's just that) [External Link].

Dota Underlords gains a prototype Battle Pass in the latest Early Access update
13 Jul 2019 at 9:39 pm UTC

Valve will be using it as a "learning experience"
AKA Can we have a Cowboy Ursa or a Cowboy Phantom Assassin...

(Story: Back in 2012 The Alpine Stalker set for Ursa [External Link] in Dota2 was addend then removed after only a week. Then this year they add the Gothic Whisper for PA [External Link]

With a Battle Pass system, you know what you're going to get and when you get it. It's a much clearer system, there's no gambling involved and so it's just better.
Sadly, it depend, for example the Dota one still relies on the chest system, and so it's still gambling, but it's nonetheless a lesser for of it (the Dota chests have things like escalating odds, displayed odds, and even displayed content -so you know if you are done before opening it- if your country require it IIRC Netherlands do that, and a few EU countries in the area)

But still, if they go the Season way, it may be a bit better still.

Just to be sure: it's only hats and cosmetics, right? I guess so, but I'm not playing enough Underlords to know.
