Aaaand I pulled the trigger. Not for the close alpha tough. No time for it now, and I don't want to spoil my exploration craving with alpha right now.
I mean, I'm waiting for so long for an exploration game (space/sci-fi themed preferably) that I can run without re-installing windows, that I feel I can wait a few more months.

I threw it away after that, it had lost its "superb".
And for the curious that don't know what we are talking about:

That game was the reason I bought a 1x cd reader at the time. For the "talky" version.
A creative labs, with a caddy and a big lever to eject it.
God that thing was awful...
And I kept that strange triangular box as long as I could.
I'm so glad to be able to play it again AND support linux ports today!
Thanks to you Cheese and double fine!

Developer breaks silence about 'The Silent Age', a point-and-click adventure for which a Linux port was promised

.Net devs usually calls this "components"
Could be network related (multiplayer protocol for a game), anti-cheat in multiplayer game, graphic (handling 3d, or simply image display methods) or any other part of an application...
Rather than developing the solution themselves, the game studio bought a license to use some code another firm have developed.
It spares them some work, but it introduce a bit of software they have no ability to alter.
You usually don't get a middleware source code, just a library to integrate in your project.
So, if the middleware you use is not compatible with another system than windows, then you cannot use your game binary without re-implementing what the middleware does, and in a compatible way.
They just don't want to invest that much time in it.
What irkes me the most tough, is the "if" in that sentence:

Quoting: BreezeWhat do these developers mean by middleware? Are they talking about network, database, keyboard/controller libraries? There are tons of platform independent libraries for those.I middleware is a piece of software that does a part of the job you need done.

We haven't looked at it for a while, but if and when we return to it, we'll let you know. They are just simply walking away of they're previous statement that a Linux version will be available.

I'll join the "waiting for the release to be here" train.
I've got more than enough good games waiting for me to play with them anyway.

Quoting: mrboeseMy crystal ball says: Will be as always. First the developer promises a Linux version, then is completely surprised that - who thought of THIS - people actually want a Linux version. It smells like Carmageddon. Still burned deep by that one.
Promises Linux version 1 week after release; But no - it's postponed -XBOX One+ Playstation + Android + Wii U + Windows 10 App versions are more important; After 1 year there'll be a Linux version with ~40% performance loss; Some time after Linux release, the developer will complain that Linux sales are crappy (Who thought that ~1% of users can actually only be expected to contribute ~1% of sales!!1!!!), Ubuntu always crashes and there will be never a Linux version again.
TLDR: I believe it when I see it.

Quoting: mcphailJust so you know, I bought Divinity original sin on gog with a 50% reduction on Friday during their summer sale. don't know if it's still there though.Quoting: wojtek881) I've finally made my dualshock 4 controller to work with Don't Starve Together in wireless mode. The problem is that it does not work correctly with Steam in big picture (from time to time overlay kicks in, in big picture sometimes controller starts to behave like y-axis is moved down, and in general it starts to be unusable)By any chance, are you having issues with your keyboard or mouse being wrongly detected as a controller? I had this issue, and Steam Big Picture mode would behave as if my XB360 controller was always pressing "up". I fixed it by using a udev blacklist for my wireless keyboard/mouse [External Link].

Well, I was eyeing Divinity original sin for quite some time, and the last week GOG sale with a 50% reduction made me commit.
For now, I don't see why all the praises, but I'm just starting in the 1st city, so it might be that.
Seems still pretty linear, but less that Pillar of Eternity.
Otherwise, I found out that Factorio is still as time consuming as was when I bought it.
Damn those biters!

it's great, but I have to admit that I'm not sure that I'll dig my old cd (no idea where I put that thing).
1st, I don't have a cd drive anymore, and I'm cheap so I won't buy it again on steam or gog.
2nd, I truly enjoy war for the overworld, and it is linux native.
