Development on the new System Shock has been paused

Words are meant to be interpreted. Something that is not a mathematical expression has to examined regarding its context and possible intention. We have no reason to be 100% sure that the game is canceled, because that would be a rather extreme statement. But that doesn't mean that we should take the words of the CEO in the most literal way possible.

Between those extremes lies the truth, which is up to debate.

I think his write-up is way too short and too vague to achieve what he supposedly wants to achieve: That the backers know what's up. I don't think they do. At least I don't know what's up after reading this.

What was the so called "something that happened"? What exactly did go wrong? What are features or mechanics you already tried to implement that would end up ruining the core of the original game? What has the engine switch to do with "envisioning more"?

And most importantly: How long is the hiatus? 2 weeks? A full month? Half a year? Open ended? Are only programmers and artists on a break, and game designers work on way to get back on track, or is the full studio on a leave?

Please accept my personal assurance that we will be back and stronger than ever.
I'm not going to lie: After such a short and vague post, I wouldn't accept it as a backer. As I see it, one would write a post like this because he doesn't know the answers himself, and he doesn't even know if he would come up with a solution in the very near future. Otherwise, one could've taken the time to come up with a solution and then write about the new vision for the game. Or at least come up with a new mission statement and rough details on the plan to get back on track. But what is written now is a mere "Something's wrong, project's postponed without an ETA. Bye!"

As others said; I'd be happy to be wrong about this. But I'm long enough on this planet to not hold my breath for it.

Super Tony Land is a story-based platformer that will let you build your own awesome stories

Thanks for the info! Seems like I was indeed too harsh on this particular developer. :) I guess I was frustrated with too many silly promises from other devs. Well, I'll take a closer look at the games from this one.

Quoting: liamdaweI think you're being way too harsh. For one single person, managing the development and support of multiple platforms is not exactly an easy task. That said, they've done it before with their previous game. I don't doubt their intentions at all.
I don't really know the developer, so I'm not really putting these words into their mouth. If they made a Linux port themselves for their previous games, then the hopes are rather high.

It's just that you can't know that from just the phrase "Linux will come soon". Maybe some kind of "Port Possibility Rating" could be attached at the end of articles on games where the situation is unclear. A game made by a developer who made their own ports in multiple times in the past would get a rather high rating. Certain aspects would lower the rating, for example if the previous port(s) were done by a contractor or were of bad quality. That way people wouldn't have to research that info on their own.

The good old "We only have one programmer, so the Linux version will come after release!" As of right now, this is a good as "I have no idea what Linux even is, and I can not tell you if there will ever be a Linux port."

KING Art may be doing a Kickstarter for RTS 'Iron Harvest', they're asking for feedback

If we were to do a Kickstarter campaign for Iron Harvest, how likely would it be for you to support us?
Well... that really depends. Depending on the campaign, the information about the game, the game design goals and the development plan, my reaction could range anywhere from "I hope you die a slow and painful death!" to "Please take my money right now! I love and want to marry you!".

How would I be able answer that question without any information about the campaign?

DECEIVER is a cyberpunk pre-apocalyptic philosophical shooter that's heading to Linux

The teaser is titled "philosophical shooter". Maybe it escaped me, but I didn't saw much of a hint of philosophical topics in the trailer.

Phantom Signal is an interesting Strategy game with Tower Defense mechanics

It has a nice feel to it, but it is rather rough around the edges. The UI doesn't show the range of the weapons after they are placed. The difficulty of the game is based on the fact that you don't know from which angle the enemies come from and what type of enemies you will have. You have to play a level more than one time, there is no other way. Not really my cup of tea.

Open source game engine 'Godot Engine' has the first 3.0 release candidate available

Quoting: STiATA bit sad they dropped the idea of supporting Vulkan due to the amount of work involved for "not enough benefit" at the moment. We'll see, maybe that will change in the future.
I'm glad they didn't divide their resources to work on that. I doubt that it would be useful for the scope of this engine right now.
