Not bad, not great. As a gamer and programmer I have more needs than this, split design with additional thumb keys and more ergonomics are a Must-Have for me. Therefore I am very happy with my Dygma Raise (https://dygma.com/ [External Link]) Nearly the same price point, but better overall product.

Quoting: scaineNow I am curious, what is it why you need to run Kate as root? To edit restricted files? Or is pressing save and then entering your password to complex?Quoting: GrimfistI'm well read on why they did it, and I still believe it to be a monumentally poor decision. Indeed, if you have to "read up on why" or research "how to do privileged actions in those apps", the KDE devs have failed.Quoting: CatKillerYou don't need to run Kate with sudo. If you really must, you can do the sensible thing and use sudoedit, but Kate will prompt for authorisation when saving a privileged file when run as a normal user anyway. Finally someone with a brain, thank you!
Not having an easy solution for privileged use of Dolphin is a pain: some file management tasks, particularly as a new user, are much less error-prone when done in a graphical file browser. But you wouldn't have been using sudo with Dolphin in the old days anyway: it would have been kdesu.
Instead of complaining that KDE forbids running some apps as root, read up why and how to do privileged actions in those apps...
Indeed, I don't use KDE because of it. The only way I could feasibly set up my computers in KDE is to install replacements for Kate and Dolphin - two of the more core applications to the whole KDE experience. So, nah.

The Linux distribution I was most thankful for in 2020 - EndeavourOS

Quoting: Sar....since the Manjaro Devs decided to go off the deep end and destroy their community...I am curious what you mean by that? I use Manjaro as my daily driver for over 3 years now and try to stay up-to-date with what happens in Manjaro space, but cannot think of something that would justify such harsh words. Would you mind to elaborate?
...
Gotta thank the Manjaro Devs for being complete asshats, because I wouldn't have tried Endeavour otherwise!

I am curious what are the problems with Manjaro? I am running Manjaro KDE for almost three years now on my main rig with zero problems. The only problems I had were part to my experimentation and misconfiguration (you shoudn't do that on your main rig :D)
But I have my fair share of criticism for SystemD and that's why I startet experimenting with other non-SystemD based distros (which rules out EndeavourOS for me) on my test rig. Void and Artix look the most promising to me. I had a Void KDE install up and running within 35 minutes and an hour later all my workflows were working too. It is a bit more work than running Manjaro because that takes care for a lot of details for you, but once learned you can use this knowledge on any distro.
Now I need to find time to migrate my main rig to Void :D
And after that, maybe I build a LFS system with runit :D

The Solus Linux team release the Budgie 10.5.2 desktop environment upgrade

I really love the concept of Solus and Budgie, but there is one thing that keeps me from using it: No ability to place a panel on another (non primary) display. They intend to implement this maybe in Budgie 11, so until then I will stay with my trusted Manjaro
Bevy seems like an impressive upcoming free and open source game engine made with Rust

Quoting: setzer22Bevy looks awesome for Rust gamedev! Another popular choice for game development in Rust is Godot, which can run Rust code via its GDNative API. I'm currently using that for my game and I'm enjoying it a lot!Oh I didn't know that one can use Godot with Rust. Rust is an amazing language and Godot an amazing engine, so natural fit for me :D
Godot+Rust (or other engines like Bevy) are a very Linux-friendly setup :) I develop 100% on Linux, but I had no trouble cross-compiling my Rust code to play on Windows (compared to the cross-compilation hell in C++, with Rust it's literally a one-liner!).

Great to see XFCE mature even more. I had to revert back to it while KDE was broken because of the Qt 5.15 debacle on my Artix system. And while it was only a couple of days, it was a pleasent journey. But now that KDE is fixed again, I will go back to my beloved KDE ;)

Quoting: AvikarrXFCE is the best desktop environment. I used, and tested almost all of DE, and I always come back to XFCE. I don't know, it just works, it is very lightweight, simplistic, customizable and beautiful :) When i look at it, I just feel at home.Funny, I can say the exact same things about my beloved KDE ;)
