Valve has a problem brewing with user reviews and bots

I'm a fan of game reviewer Jim Sterling and he's been on a bit of a crusade about the problems with Greenlight and Valve's lack of quality control for quite a while and he makes a lot of very good points. I'm generally careful about what I purchase, but I've purchased a couple of games that I really hoped would be good from the screenshots but turned out to be terrible, half-baked garbage that I had to get a refund for. (Thank goodness for refunds, at least.)

Zimplex1: Love the avatar. That's one game I'd love to see a Linux port for, however terrible it is.

Feral Interactive are teasing another new Linux & Mac port with a new clue

There's a subwoofer with the model SB12.

Also, any time I see the letters "SB", I think Strong Bad. Though I'd be surprised to see anything Homestar related, unfortunately. I just find it funny.

Rocket League for Linux & SteamOS getting close to a release window finally
4 Jun 2016 at 4:32 pm UTC

I got a copy with my Steam controller and to be honest I haven't lost my enthusiasm for trying it out, despite the delays. Of course, I haven't installed it yet, so it should still be counted as a Linux 'sale' when I finally do. I hope.

Editorial: Valve have not abandoned SteamOS or Linux, things are looking pretty good

As far as the Wiki goes, is there a page for hidden, unsupported, but nonetheless-existant ports? "The Charnel House Trilogy", an excellent horror adventure game made in AGS, is one that I love. Though when I played it, I remember having to edit the shell script for it, but it was worth it. I know that there are some others, though I can't remember all of the ones I've come across and I likely don't know all of them.

Sunday chat: What have you been playing, and what do you think?

I finished Cradle, but have spent more time in it since, both for just enjoying its world (a desolate, but beautiful corner of Mongolia) as it's laid out, as well as for completing achievements. The achievements help in working out the cryptic plot and ending, which is something I love, being a fan of films of that sort. It's such a beautiful game and I look forward to anything the developers put out going forward.

I recently purchased Saints Row IV and V and have been playing through IV. Love the ridiculous jumping. And it's pretty funny. I'm new to the Saints Row series, so this is my first taste.

The Last Door 2. I'm taking breaks between chapters just to make it last longer. I loved the first episode and this one is building up to be just as good it seems. The first game was just possibly the best representation of Lovecraft-style horror I've ever seen.

And, as always, the Binding of Isaac:Afterbirth and Left4Dead2. Who knows when I'll get tired of BoI (I spent untold hours on the flash version, too) and L4D2 is great for just a quick play with no commitment.

PAYDAY 2 on Linux & SteamOS, some thoughts & port report
31 Mar 2016 at 6:29 pm UTC

I'm a little late commenting on this, but I wanted to mention an issue that might affect some users.

Not too long ago, I solved a whole BUNCH of audio problems by getting rid of PulseAudio and using dmix instead. (For a "dirty hack", as so many people call it, it's working a heck of a lot better than PulseAudio was.) The one problem I came across was during the free week of Payday 2 that just ended. Apparently, without PulseAudio, the game just isn't going to give you audio except in the two cut scenes in the intro. I tried and tried and couldn't get it to work and finally someone told me that it was a known issue.

It's a shame, because it did look pretty damn cool and I was all set to buy it, but if I can't get sound working (this being the only game now where I have that trouble), it's a waste. I hope that's eventually fixed soon and that I find out about it.

Ori and the Blind Forest developer clarifies why a Linux port is up to Microsoft
6 Jan 2016 at 2:35 am UTC

Quoting: apassinggamerMicrosoft studios games coming to linux? It's happened before, and with a somewhat similar title, not sure if humble were involved in the porting/negotiations, might be worth contacting them.

I just made an account here to point this out because I didn't see the previous comment, lol.

Maybe the developer of Ori could talk to the developer of Dust and ask how that was done.
