GNOME 40 is out now with the redesigned Activities Overview
24 Mar 2021 at 8:59 pm UTC

After a quick and dirty(mouse cursor appeared as a vague cloud instead of a solid entity and I could not be bothered to find a fix) look:
Some fancy effects but very inconsistent placement, size and behaviour of the different 'virtual desktop pannels'.

Workflow wise I get much better and less fiddley and faster results with a proper menu when adding a hot-corner that opens the all workspaces overview in Cinnamon than when using this new GNOME feature.

Looks kind of nice though.

Sofa gaming Linux distro GamerOS version 23 is out continuing to fill the gap of SteamOS

Quoting: ElectricPrism
Quoting: gojulThis distro is based on Arch. Isn't it risky for gaming ?
I've been gaming on Arch for like 6 years, rolling release "risky" is mostly a myth.

40% of the gamers here prefer to game on Arch

Meanwhile non-rolling distros occupy less linux-gamer-share.

So there you have it my two cents on it.
Maybe, but who wants to be mainstream anyway? ;-)

GNOME Shell to get an Activities Overview design revamp in GNOME 40

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI suspect a basic problem with the way user research works is that "easier to learn" is often not the same as "more effective to use". So you show people various ways of doing things and they're like "I get this one right away!" and you decide the User Has Spoken and you get something that isn't that great once people have it up and running for a while.
Possibly.
But so far GNOME 3 has not exactly been self explanatory either.
The only way you could call it simple is visually (by hiding often used functionality behind cryptic icons requiring extra clicks) and functionality wise (by reducing programms/applications to a bare minimum that is bordering on uselessness).
compared to more classic designs you actually have to learn to use it properly and there is unfortunately no efficiency compensation for that energy and time investment to be found. ( Unless you get frustrated enough to bypass the problems by finally learning some CLI magic, that is. ;-))

GNOME Shell to get an Activities Overview design revamp in GNOME 40

Wow...just...wow...rofl

"6 separate user research exercises"
...and they have not even figured out the most basic of design flaws...

The "activities" button

................................... and the

.............................................................................................button to open the application drawer
......................................................................................................... are on opposite sides of the screen.
And that is just one of the problems.

Quoting: ShaddycatI updated with the driver tool provided by Mint.
Sorry, no clue then.

Linux Mint 20.1 released, will be supported until 2025

Quoting: Purple Library GuyPersonally, I like Cinnamon quite well, but I use Mint with Mate because of a particular personal schtick: I like having a few launchers on the taskbar and launching my most-used applications that way. But I also like plenty of space on the taskbar for showing the different windows, because my long habit from old Windows days is to switch between things that way. So I like having two taskbars--one along the bottom for application switching, one going up the right hand side for launchers (on the side because widescreen real estate). Mate is happy to do that for me, and thus far every time I've tried Cinnamon I couldn't get that to happen. So I've stuck with Mate, but it's not like I have anything against Cinnamon; it's quite nice, it's just that one feature I want.
If I understood you correctly:
Add a panel to the right with panel-launcher-applet on it and drag the applet to the desired position in panel edit mode + use the bottom panel with the the classic windows-list-applet and drag it to either left/right/center position.

Update your NVIDIA drivers due to multiple security issues found

Quoting: ShaddycatDoesn't work on my machine. I get stuck at a super low resolution and 76 Hz. Using a GTX 1080 on Mint. Anyone else have a similar issue?

I'll just stick to 450 for now I think.
Did you manually upgrade from the nvidia page or did you use the driver tool provided by Linux Mint in combination with the ppa [External Link]?

Ah, the taste of fresh mint! yum yum! Cinnamon taste getting more refined once again with the fantastic Favourites feature (well, the tasteless modern taskbar flavour being the exception, but since the classic one comes included as a service: no points deducted ;-)).
Happily savouring gaming though Linux Mint since 2015 sometimes with a bottle of wine sometimes pure as it comes. Never got tired of the taste.

Heroic Games Launcher is a new unofficial Epic Games Store for Linux
6 Jan 2021 at 2:11 am UTC Likes: 2

One of the reasons we need software like this is because Epic has so far given away about 170 Games for free. Whether we like it or not, there will be Windows users (or better: potential Linux users) out there, that are building substantial game libraries. If we do not want these libraries to be the famous last hurdle that keeps them away from greener, wider pastures, we need accessible solutions like Legendary and Heroic Game Launcher as long as most of the industry is not willing to support us directly.
That being said: our support whether financial or otherwise is probably better placed into community projects like these launchers that clear hurdles or alternative Stores that do directly support Linux then into Corporations like Epic that do not.
