New Valve trademark for 'Steam Frame', looks like we're getting new hardware

Would you buy a new VR kit from Valve? I'm looking forward to it, especially if it has a standalone mode and is a bit more compact than the ageing Valve Index.
I certainly would. My Pico 4 works perfectly with Linux, thanks to great developers of WiVRn, xrizer, wlx-overlay-s and other tools, but to have a standalone headset compatible with PC games, allowing for Steam Deck-like customisation, with open architecture and a great wireless connectivity with PCs would be a blessing. A headset not from a social media invigilation company like Meta or Tenzen would be welcome too.

Steam Survey for July 2025 shows Linux approaching 3%

It would make sense to have two linear fits: one before the Steam Deck release, and another after the release. There is a hint of further acceleration, but I don't think it warrants a third linear fit. Or perhaps some kind of log fit instead?

It looks as if critical mass was achieved. Combined ease of use, accumulated knowledge outside of nerd forums, growing familiarity and exposure (e.g., through the Steam Deck desktop mode), thus less anxiety to try.

If you want the post-Deck trend, shift the red trend up and then steepen it by the gradient of the green trend.

You can, of course, pick whichever date range you're interested in on the Steam Tracker to see the data and trend for that period.
So desktop Linux usage growth pretty much stopped around the release of the Steam Deck? We're still around 1.0-1.1%. All the growth can be attributed to new Steam Deck users.

It might mean though that some users of Linux desktops no longer play on their PCs, but on their Decks, so no growth on Steam doesn't mean no growth in general.

The first game I played on the Deck using Chiaki. A great game, a nice take on a little stale open world genre.

NVIDIA driver 550.67 released fixes for VKD3D (Proton), Wayland and more

Quoting: Vortex_AcheronticOr Valve could finally move to support Wayland natively instead of relying on XWayland. That would solve the infamous flicker as well. It's super annoying nevertheless.
Would it? Firefox and Chrome flicker, even though Ozone is set to Wayland. Or could it be that programs themselves still use XWayland, and just the web rendering engine uses native Wayland? I'm just a casual user without such knowledge.
