Steam Play is great for a younger audience with games like LEGO Jurassic World

Around the time Steam Play allowed playing Lego games on Linux, my son switched to Fortnite.

Bummer.

Transport Fever has a fresh patch out with community-requested improvements, new game teased

Quoting: iiariHow is Transport Fever? I can't believe I missed that. That looks right up my alley. That kind of game lives and dies on its UI. Is it a solid title?
Laying tracks is clunky. There's no planner, you can't plan a full connection and then click build, but you build (and spend money!) segment after segment. Also, tracks are fully rendered when you lay them, which causes poor performance.

Performance-wise, when the game recalculates income etc., it can slow down terribly on big maps.

Whatever, watching a busy large station is hypnotising :)

It might be time to revisit. I spent 100 hours in Train Fever but only 33 in Transport Fever, despite the latter being obviously better.

There's something deeply satisfying in creating a well-functioning transport network :)

Google's game streaming platform Project Stream is built on Linux and Vulkan

Quoting: KetilGNU isn't important, just look at the BSDs. The important thing is that it is unix-like.
MacOS is BSD under the hud, but we cannot call Apple free software friendly. If this announcement came from Apple, I'd be sure there wouldn't be Linux support at all.

Quoting: elmapuli would add:
the end of mods
Not necessarily. Depending on the implementation, there could be something like Steam Workshop, but allowing your own mods to be uploaded to your folder in the cloud.

Feral Interactive are teasing another Linux port

Quoting: mylkasaddly only arkham origins works OOTB. knight ist totally borked. for the linux community it would make more sense to port batman, than hitman 2, becuase hitman 2 works OOTB
but i think they make more money with hitman 2. and it should be easy to port, because it is nearly the same game as hitman 1
Hitman: Absolution would be nice. its also totally borked
True, but the key thing is money: Proton raises the bar. For games like Hitman 2 it's either 0 day release (or shortly afterwards) or the risk of missing the boat, if many Linux gamers bought the game thanks to good enough Proton performance.

Well, another thought: if there is a Linux native port in the works, would original publisher intentionally break Proton compatibility to keep feasibility of the port?

With Proton, it makes less and less sense to port old games. So probably no Skyrim, no Batman Arkham Knight or other old games anymore.

Which is good, methinks. Let them focus on new games - and announce earlier, so people don't buy games that work ok in Proton, but wait for ports. Because of that Hitman 2 is unlikely, as it reportedly works well with Proton.

Valve adds the new Steam Chat into Big Picture Mode

It doesn't look too BPM-like to me. I doubt the font is readable from 10 feet, but I will see.

Anyway, the BPM is sooo broken and missing features and it hasn't seen any updates in a while.

Valve just put out another (smaller) Steam Play beta version

Quoting: beniwtvFor me this was quite the update!

Star Trek: Bridge Crew, which is an Ubisoft game using Uplay just started working, IN VR, everything. Still can't believe it really. Nice job everyone involved!
Have we leapfrogged the year of Linux on the desktop and jumped straight into the year of Linux VR?

Quoting: EikeExperimental is not as evil as it sounds and has got 396.54 at the moment:
https://packages.debian.org/experimental/nvidia-driver [External Link]
I did install from experimental several times and didn't run into problems.
Of course: no guarantee.
I used to run unstable/experimental in Potato/Woody times, then got older and switched to testing. Now I don't have enough time to play, not to mention tinkering, so it's stable, with backports when I want some excitement :)

Edit: back on the topic, Lego Batman 3 works in DX10 mode, no glitches, no black screen issues.
