Looks like Republique is no longer getting a Linux port

I resemble that remark... but you'll never hear me say anything is impossible. I generally just pound away at something until I find a way to make it work. I'm not a professional programmer.

Black Mesa developer shoots down anti-Linux troll, confirms Linux version is in progress

Quoting: thelimeydragonYes you can say whatever you want on your own website. He is free to state whatever he wants on public websites. However I don't expect to see some articles that target 1 individual who has no influence on anything.
His behavior has contributed to getting pro Linux ports threads shut down. And probably put off some devs to things related to Linux.

Edit: Fixed your quote for you - liam

Black Mesa developer shoots down anti-Linux troll, confirms Linux version is in progress

Why would someone that plays games in Linux go around game threads and try to convince game devs not to make Linux ports? That is what he does. Even games where developers have already stated they are making Linux ports. Is there any logical purpose to what he does if he/she isn't being paid to do it? He says people posting for games that they didn't buy when they were ported are spamming but he posts into game forums for games he doesn't own and doesn't appear to have any interest in, so by his own logic he is spamming. He doesn't even say he is considering buying the game, but those he calls spammers are saying they will "consider" buying the game and that makes them spammers. He goes into threads with the intent of causing problems and getting threads closed, tries to make Linux unappealing for developers. Is his behavior grounds for banning, I don't know if it is but it should be. Is he a Troll, most definitely. He is the equivalent of a Linux user who goes and posts into every Windows game thread and tries to convince game devs to stop making Windows games. Using the very real privacy issues, anti-competitive business practices and their desire to implement a store that take sales percentages as justification. Sure it is a legit viewpoint, but going into every Windows game forum and arguing that dev's should not make Windows games is not legit. I haven't seen a Linux user display this type of behavior and if they do I think they should banned also. Linux users don't constantly argue against making Windows games, we argue for multi platform games. We want games to have a larger audience, not to restrict the audience. I personally feel that when possible games should be available on every platform. As a gamer I shouldn't have to have Windows, a PS4, an XBox 1 and a WiiU to play all modern games. Meraco is like herpes or a warts. His mere existence on a thread turns it into something devs want to get rid of, and that is his goal. He has been somewhat successful at it.

Nightdive Studios are making a System Shock Linux demo after gathering feedback

If its Unity you can try using the Unity Linux runtime and put the game file in place, it may work native.

I was trying to get Dues Ex the fall working this way, it works but without sound. I compiled every version of the wwise audio library on their site for linux but still no sound.

If they aren't using plugins that are incompatible Linux it will probably work.

I'm going to mess it with it later. I downloaded the demo a little while ago and extracted the files. It looks like the only plugins used is the wwise aksoundengine. The same plugin used in Dues Ex the Fall, maybe one of my compiled linux aksoundengine files will work.

Deep Silver confirm Homefront: The Revolution is still in the works for Linux

I don't like these kind of responses. It is basically just saying it hasn't been cancelled yet. I would much rather here it is being actively worked on. "In the works" can mean it hasn't actually been started but is still planned, maybe. I'm pretty sure Darksiders 1 and 2 are still in the works too. We'll probably never see them though.

Want to play the classic racer Need For Speed II SE on Linux? There's an open source engine for that
20 Jun 2016 at 8:47 pm UTC

Just compiled it on 64bit Fedora 22. Easiest compile from source I've done in a long time. Felt like it didn't even happen, I though it was like a custom configure script but when I went looking for the make file all I found was an executable.

Would be awesome if the publisher gave their permission, even throw some change at the person that did it and make it an official port. They could release on steam/GOG multiplatform and make a few bucks. Probably never happen though, it is too reasonable.

This is one of the big reasons I moved away from Debian. Multi arch support is a pain. Your can force mutli arch support but it gives you a bunch of scary warnings. You can try to find 32 bit versions but the support is sparse. Fedora has great multiarch support, I run 32 execs and compile 32 source on my 64 bit machine quite frequently.

One thing you can do on Debian/Ubuntu, which I have done in the past, is create 32 chroot in your 64 bit system. You have to bind mount some dirs like /dev but it works really well, just wasteful as you have to maintain full installs of 64 bit and 32 bit at the same time.

This is awesome though, Ive been using dosbox for Need for Speed 1, with openglide for Tombraider and some other dos games. Now I can get Need for Speed 2 also.

Deep Silver & Techland are not supporting Dead Island Definitive Edition on Linux, at all
15 Jun 2016 at 6:30 pm UTC

Those of you with problems in the menu, do you have vsync on? When I turn on vsync the menu becomes almost unusable, but with it off it is just fine. This may be because I have a GYSNC card and monitor with GSYNC on, but I never had to do this with any other games.

As far as support, even in Windows support is often pretty bad for games that are supported. I think the quality of support in general these days is piss poor. Seems like a lot of indie games have better support than the big companies. I'm more worried that whoever was porting the Techland games has left and no more Techland games will have linux support... I mean versions.

Hopefully they are just going through a lot of changes and will get their heads out of their *****.

Dead Island Definitive Edition and Dead Island: Riptide Definitive Edition now officially support Linux & SteamOS

I figured it would happen this way. They probably wanted to ensure no major problems. Released it working and waited to see if we would report any major issues. Has anyone tested online multiplayer?

Steam Machines are dead in the water according to Ars, not quite
2 Jun 2016 at 8:17 pm UTC Likes: 2

Isn't Ars also the organization who had an article that criticized SteamOS for a problem that was actually user error? The guy didn't know how to use his own monitor (4k), didn't read the manual. And they never corrected the article (did they?). As far as I'm concerned Ars is a technical joke with no credibility.
