Trying the experimental GCN 1.0 support in AMDGPU

Quoting: seven.....and this is why i always use nvidia.....
I prefer AMD because of it's open-source driver (at the moment I'm using amdgpu with an R9 270X, based on a Pitcairn refresh, without any problems), which can be used with PRIME without any problems. This isn't possible with nvidia cards, neither with nouveau, which lacks reclocking support, nor with the proprietary driver, which can only render everything on the dGPU or nothing. The Bumblebee project (which tried to make PRIME work when Nvidia didn't support hybrid graphics on Linux at all) seems abandoned since 2013.

And what about the Code 43 errors with gpu-passthrough of nvidia cards? AMD doesn't do such crap. The cards that have reset issues have workarounds without an impact on performance. In contrast, to run Nvidia Geforce cards with passthrough, you need to disable some hypervisor features to make them run, and you can't even use the emulated QXL video card, so it's impossible to use them on headless systems.

The big SteamOS update that drops AMDGPU-PRO in favour of Mesa has left beta

Hopefully nvidia will start to think about freeing their driver when they see this.

I think AMD Hardware will get a boost in this survey (and others) when they release Threadripper and Vega.

Razer looking to improve Linux support on their 'Blade' series of laptops

I have a Blade, and the biggest problem is nVidia Optimus View video on youtube.com . Since the 1060 isn't supported by nouveau in Linux 4.9, I have to use Bumblebee till I upgrade to 4.10, but Bumblebee has problems with Vulkan and with monitors attached to the dGPU. At the moment, the Arch Linux Wiki [External Link] has most information about needed workarounds etc.

I'd really like to see a graph showing the average RAM trend ...

Why not a XMPP MUC (eventually bridged with the IRC)?

Steam hits over 14 million concurrent users online

The Steam survey has indeed a problem. Yesterday I found this article: http://linuxtechandgaming.com/an-open-letter-to-valve/ [External Link]
But I don't know whether they're interested in fixing this since they got a visit from Microsoft.

Please add "Do you use a virtual machine for gaming?" and the options "No", "Yes", "Yes, with dedicated graphics card".
I'd also like to see clickable CPU and GPU types with links to ark.intel.com, products.amd.com and nvidia.com in "View PC info" next to a comment. A nice feature would also be a text field for the Motherboard.

The next driver release from NVIDIA will support using Vulkan without needing the X11 on Linux

Afaik they kind of support Wayland, but not the actual specification. Is there some news on this?

I'd like to have an open XMPP conference for Gaming On Linux. I'm sure there are some PHP libs for XMPP out there which you can use to automatically post new articles there.
