COSMIC Alpha coming in July - System76 reveal branding, a big hardware sale with new merch

Quoting: pleasereadthemanualThere's no reason you can't use GNOME's calculator on KDE. I mean, it's what I do. I use Solanum, Amberol, Bottles, Evolution, Folaite, Loupe, Lutris, Errands, GNOME Boxes, and Remmina on KDE. GNOME applications look pretty good on KDE with only slight weirdness in some cases. Nautilus is probably the most pronounced instance of this, but it looks nowhere near as bad as Dolphin looks on GNOME.
The DE is more than the UI, if I need to use the core apps of another DE, makes sense to just switch to another DE (IMO your situation is exception). The only GTK app I really need on KDE is GIMP, and yeah... doesn't look good.

It's playable offline? Maybe worth to buy it...

COSMIC Alpha coming in July - System76 reveal branding, a big hardware sale with new merch

I hope that they succeed, looks like it will be the only wayland alternative to KDE and GNOME, I tried a lot of times to use KDE (3, 5, 6...), I sincerely can't like it, too much bugs and pretty bad apps (even the calculator is bad IMO). Gnome just feels better and looks like they are improving the gaming aspect of it. However I dislike the way gnome works, I mean, the UX is perfect to me, but sounds like they aren't helpful to keep compatibilities with other DEs.

COSMIC sounds like it picks the best of both DEs.

I want to try it as soon it releases, and after that I hope that soon they develop a Fedora Spin with it.

Embracer Group put out their plans for AI in game development

I believe that AI can help, people who can't write a code can use it, people who can't produce art can use it... But of course big companies will use it to reduce the employees numbers. Those developers should have a plan B, create a indie studio and start working on prototypes.

DRM lease protocol support finally merged for GNOME Wayland - great for VR fans

It's nice that GNOME is slowly supporting techs for gaming (like VRR), I really tried to like KDE, but it's not for me, in my experience it was always buggy and it offers a lot more than it can delivery. I used KDE 6 since the release of Fedora 40 and my experience wasn't good, recently I bought a new SSD and fresh installed the Fedora GNOME, it feels a lot better.

I just hope that COSMIC have a pretty good release, I'm looking forward to try it as soon it releases, look like it feels like gnome but a lot more modular.

Paradox Interactive completely cancelled Life by You (update Paradox Tectonic to close)
18 Jun 2024 at 12:44 am UTC

I believe that's a really hard game to make, there's no other relevant "the sims-like" game. It's sad that they cancelled, looks like it's a lot of hard work going to trash... I think that they should just trim the concepts of the game and release it cheaper, then with the feedback they improve in the sequel.

Gears of War: E-Day announced and it's coming to Steam

Quoting: pete910Probably because they've realised game pass is not sustainable
I think that gamepass is great for gamers, but bad for developers (and making it available to PC and whatever thing with internet maybe even hurt Xbox). So IMO it's easier to even make it available to Playstation than make it exclusive to console.

I just hope that this game won't use any AC

So much for preservation, the classic Delta Force games are getting delisted

I bet that those games are in every abandonware website, so f*ck it.

Ghost of Tsushima single-player only on Steam Deck due to PlayStation Network features

I hate sony and most of their woke exclusives (not sure if it's the case of this specific game, but I don't care anyway), so I have a little interest in this game...

However, why are we complaining about this? It's nice that it at least run! There's a lot of games that disallow to play single player game because of online bullshit. For example is FIFA/EA-FC, I have no interest in playing that online-loot-box mode, I only want to play a local 1v1 against my friend, which I can't because of anti cheat.

So I think that this is better than nothing... Sony isn't that bad with Linux support.

Riot Games talk Vanguard anti-cheat for League of Legends and why it's a no for Linux

Quoting: ShabbyX> Half of anti-cheat is making sure the environment hasn't been tampered with, and this is extremely hard on Linux by design.

If anyone ever claims 'windows is secure now", show them this statement. These sort of invasive actions is impossible to do on Linux (and easy on windows), for the same reason we don't get viruses (but windows does).
I dislike windows and never installed on my PCs since 2014 (well, I have an old HDD with it because I needed to install an AMD application just to receive a steam key). But I believe that nowadays it's secure if the user uses it "moderately", just don't install any bullshit on the OS (prefer FOSS apps) and don't visit weird websites and you're good to go.

The xz polemic shows how dangerous the installation of some software can be, yeah, it's FOSS but the release file wasn't 1:1 to the repo (or i'm missing something), so who knows how many people used sudo trusting on the project, and ended with a infected OS?

Again, it's all the user's fault. AC are intrusive AF, so just skip it.
