It would be nice if someone with an older GPU cared to comment about the performance.
It says GF560 is recommended on Windows. I don't have much breathing room there if linux performance is worse.

Hilarious :D
Finland is not in Scandinavia by the way :P That's Fennoscandia you are thinking off ;)
This DLC has added a ton of new assets. Developers clearly made an effort to make Scandinavia more interesting than say Germany. Scenery/road network in the original game is too repetitive/bland.
So far I've spent 390 hours on this game! That number would be way lower than that but for the outstanding Promods mod. That mod originally added Scandinavia as well but has grown to more that the size of the original game by now. They plan to include the whole Europe at some point. The mod has some issues with OpenGL time and again but I help the devs fix them as best as I can.
Obviously DLC duplicates a large section of the mod so they are not compatible for now. The good news is, Scandinavia being the oldest (and least remarkable by now) part of the mod, they are working to replace/merge that section with DLC assets.
Here's their review of the DLC with comparison to Promods Scandinavia:

New sections of the mod look way better than that so I can't wait for them to improve this DLC.

What's so special about testing AAA games?
One would think any software testing experience and/or tech-savviness was enough, no? Actually, a case could be made about the number of actual AAA games on Linux...
One would, again, think that experience with Linux is more important than attracting Windows gamers with 'AAA game testing experience' that also loaded up Ubuntu from their flash drive 'that time 3 years ago'.

Regarding compiling/linking: I think both valve and @icculus have talked about making it better with centralized caching etc. So there are tricks to build games faster.
