Quoting: HwkillerLet me repeat this: 1) Users cannot see what moderators do, the actual ban reasons, warnings and bans sent from moderators, etc. Thanks for the explanation, I understand. It just gets a little bit frustrating to see one guy spamming the same things over and over, being incendiary and then others getting banned due to the fallout. I've tried having a discussion with the guy but quickly realised I was going round in circles and was being baited, I often see others trying unsuccessfully to have a positive discussion which inevitably leads nowhere. I am glad its not being ignored, as its been going on for a long time and said user has built up quite a notoriety. Happy Holidays!
Meraco has not been ignored. Please do not assume what moderators do or do not do. You cannot see what we see or what we do.
Second --- Noone was banned for expressing intent to support a developer. I repeat: Noone was banned for endorsing a linux port, +1 posts, or anything like that. People were given bans either 1) as private messages, the bans which were overturned or 2) because they broke other rules (shaming users, insulting, openly discussing moderation, all rules which are set by valve).
Please stop spreading this false narrative that people were banned for advocating for a linux port. It's simply not true; people were banned only for breaking rules set by valve (not the gamehub), and none were banned for +1 posts or posts advocating for linux. We are not biased against linux users; I *am* a linux user, and have exclusively been so for many years. If any moderators were biased against linux users, I would be fighting for the linux community on the frontline, but this simply isn't the case here. Period.
What game are you truly thankful to have on Linux & SteamOS?

Quoting: jnriversStellaris was my favourite too, closely followed by Total War Warhammer and Stardew Valley.Quoting: koyal13Without a doubt... Stellaris! This game have change my gaming life haha :DDitto. Stellaris is really well crafted. It gets it's tendrils into my OCD side and before I know it I'm late for work and sleep deprived.
Civ VI Steam forum mods banning users for expressing Linux support

I think it's no wonder people become critical of the moderation for getting banned for minor infractions such expressing thier intent to financially support a developer, while an obvious troll runs rampant visibly annoying Steam users but is free to post the same inflammatory comments over and over. How come?

Quoting: HwkillerSteam global moderator here, and fellow linux user.Hwkiller, how come a disruptive antagonistic troll such as meraco does not get banned or moderated? If I'm interested in a game that doesn't have a Linux version I go to the forums to see if one is planned and inevitably if there is a linux discussion thread the troll is posting same old comments and trying to wind people up.
I want to emphasize what the editor mentioned in the post.
Steam discussion rules state that you cannot openly discuss moderation (or bait moderators, or insult other users [including moderators]). If you believe a moderator acted inappropriately, contact a global moderator or steam support; report the post.
This goes for troublesome users as well --- Report the posts, and don't take any troll bait. Just let the moderators handle it.
Just wanted to say a few things here that I've stated elsewhere:
1) Users cannot see what moderators do, the actual ban reasons, warnings and bans sent from moderators, etc.
2) Not a single person was banned for +1 posts or spam. Not a single one. Those who were banned were arguing about moderation (against the STEAM rules, set by valve, and acted on by any moderator who enforces the rules) or insulting other users.
3) +1 posts are indeed against the rules, BUT, the game hub moderator did the appropriate thing here: Encouraged users to post their support and discuss a linux port. The moderator purposefully allowed +1 posts as long as there was discussion going on as well; otherwise +1 posts just keep bumping a thread to the top and becomes spam.
4*) (Edit) Gamehub moderators have no way of PMing users. Sometimes they have to issue a 24 hour ban with the intent of sending a private message via the ban message. These bans are overturned immediately, and are only used for the message therein, not to actually ban the user. This is a tooling issue, not an abusive one.
Noone was being censored from or banned for advocating linux. I say this as both a global moderator who can see the ban reasons, deleted posts, and moderator-user discussions, and as an avid linux user who would love to see civ6 and other AAA titles on linux.
If you think there is moderator abuse, please either contact a global moderator or steam support, do not openly discuss moderation or backseat moderate. These are rules set in place by valve, not gamehub moderators, and enforced by moderators.
I think it's no wonder people become critical of the moderation for getting banned for minor infractions such expressing thier intent to financially support a developer, while an obvious troll runs rampant visibly annoying Steam users but is free to post the same inflammatory comments over and over. How come?

Quoting: EikeI think it would be nice to keep the best porter award, a certain company has done an absolutely stellar job for Linux users this year and I think it would be good to recognise and award them, if not with this award then something else like Linux Gaming MVP, or GOL Community Award, Best Streaming Channel or something like that.Quoting: liamdaweBiggest Surprise release has replaced best porter (since that was obvious who it would be)I think they would still have liked the price.
But, whatever...
Congratulations go to Feral!
Keep it up, guys and girls!

Quoting: tmtvlApart from Tyranny I can't think of a single outstanding Linux game being released in 2016, but that's probably only because 2015 was such a good year.I think its been the best year ever for Linux games. There have been more games, of a higher quality released than ever before. I don't even have any urge to resurrect a Windows partition to play games any more as I have so many great games to play. My Steam library is 13 years old, yet in the last year is now over 50% Linux games. As well as quality we've had quantity this year.

Thoughts on 'Stellaris' with the 'Leviathans Story Pack' and latest patch, a better game that still needs work

This is my "game of the year" so far this year. I'm really enjoying it and the Leviathians DLC makes it even better.

Quoting: The CaptainI'm not entirely sure, to be honest - we haven't tested that yet. Logic dictates if purchased on Linux it should count as a Linux purchase for both, but no guarantees. I'll see if we can figure that one out!I also just bought the Bundle of Joy as well, as Chromagun also looks like a game I will enjoy and I wanted to support you guys directly as well as your charity initiative. I think its really good of you to donate a whole months platform sales to charity, you have a new follower!
