Great review Liam! This is a better port than I expected. I look forward to playing it later today.
Thanks Feral for the Linux support!

Awesome! Racing games aren't my favourite type of games but I enjoy them enough for a day 1 purchase for me.
The Frostbite engine apparently has partial Linux support but that doesn’t mean we’ll get ports anytime soon

Sorry but my hopes are up. FIFA on Linux would be a dream come true for me. Yes, I realise this is still very much a pipe dream, but lowering the cost and barriers to porting will make it more financially feasible for companies to consider. At some point it will become profitable and then it would have to be seriously considered.
If Frostbyte engine games were to come to Linux (hypothetically) then it would help massively with the chicken and egg situation of gamers not moving to Linux because their favourite game is Windows only, and Devs not supporting Linux because the customers aren't there. Plus if EA made the first move and got publicity for supporting Linux (and maybe Mac) Ubi, Activision and Blizzard would also have to take note.
EA would earn huge kudos from me if they ported any of their games to Linux. It also provides an escape route for them, like Valve, if (probably when) Microsoft lock down Windows purchases to the Store.

All the FUD about using Linux is gone "have to use the command line", "no games", "amateur looking GUI", none of these are true and haven't been for a very long time, so there are less and less reasons not to switch, and many positives for switching. As there's no marketing and push for consumer Linux like there is Windows, Android, ChromeOS and iOS I think the take up will continue to be very slow and gradual.

Quoting: ertuquequeHere's my theory of the huge increase in just 1-2 months...I agree :) Computing is no longer Windows-centric, so a lot of the "fear" of using something other than Windows is gone. A few of my friends have got sick of all the privacy and security issues that come along with Windows so have switched from Windows 10 laptops to ChromeOS and Linux.
I think it's a little bit of several factors, all playing in favor of Linux.
First of all, I'm not so convinced that the increase is due to an increase in ChromeOS. Two different statistics sites that separate Linux and ChromeOS actually register a decrease in ChromeOS marketshare over the last 1-2 months while registering an increase in Linux's marketshare.

So, honestly, I think Linux is really growing... The reason in my opinion:
The recent events over the past few months: the WannaCry and Petya debacles were huge in the news and a significant number of people and businesses were affected, making them consider (and apparently take action) on switching to Linux. In the past (5-10 years ago), events like these might have turned people to Linux, but Linux 5-10 years ago was still to "hostile" for the average user (hello, wireless connections) and they just went back to Windows (that was my case)... Today? Things have improved A LOT. Hardware now works out of the box, driver performance and features are everyday closer to Windows levels, GUIs for programs are replacing the daunting CLI stuff... Things are getting much more "average user friendly".
So, I really think people are slowly turning their heads over to Linux... This rate of adoption will slow down a lot over the next weeks while the ransomware fears dissipate, but I still think we will stay over 3% and maybe reach 4% by the beginning of 2018.

I'm really looking forward to this game, it looks like it will have an interesting story and concept. I'll be keeping an eye on the development.
Ryan "Icculus" Gordon is looking for new games to port to Linux, pay not required

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI think some people who are talking about Mr. Gordon doing things like contribute to Wine or fixing problems with Unreal engine or whatnot are missing the mark a bit. Coders are not universal tools. Ryan Gordon is very experienced and expert at porting games to Linux; there may well be nobody in the world who is better. That does not make him experienced and expert at any and all computing tasks. He's a smart man and could no doubt learn any of those other things, but spending time on those learning curves, unless he happens to have "caught the bug" on one of them, would not be the best use of his time and expertise. You are absolutely right, I just thought if he knew some of the pitfalls and challenges of porting with Unreal Engine having worked with Epic and UE before, maybe he could help directly with the Engine and toolsets to make it easier long term for himself and others, just a thought I had, and as you say it may not be his forte and his talents may be better elsewhere, I like others was just speculating on what I thought might be an interesting project :)
Other people who know Wine can hack Wine, he can port games.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleLoosely related: Relic just announced they were making an Age of Empires game. I realise it's a Microsoft-tainted franchise, but so so good. Would be nice if a Linux port could happen.Unfortunately I don't think there is any chance whatsoever of a Linux version, its only available for Windows 10, not even Win 7 or 8, and is being used by Microsoft as another lever to push people towards Win10 / UWP / Store.
The official Twitter account for F1 2017 seems to have let slip info about a Linux version

I'd be very happy if it came to Linux, especially with the classic cars included in the 2017 version.
The HTC Vive just had a price cut, VR just became a little more accessible

I've still got a bit of an interest in VR, I think it still needs a "must have" game for it to really take off, as far as I've seen all the games so far are experimental and not really that compelling once the wow factor has worn off.

Quoting: lucifertdarkA little off topic but you guys really missed out on some gems for the Wii and WiiU, you can pick up the games really cheap now, too many for me to list individually but you cant go wrong with Nintendos 1st party games. I've just bought a Switch and absolutely love it.Quoting: GoboThere are two major trade fairs in Germany this week and the next: Gamescom will start on Wednesday and the IFA consumer electronics unlimited will follow suit Friday next week. Both have been used to introduce new hardware in the past, so I call it likely we will see some announcements soon.I bought the original Wii & ended up only playing a single game, the ten pin bowling that came free with the machine.
I'd be willing to shell out 700€ once the support for Linux leaves its infancy. That said, I also bought a Wii U for example and only played 3 games on it, so I might be easy to win over :)
