Easy Anti-Cheat are apparently "pausing" their Linux support, which could be a big problem (updated)

Quoting: callciferI personally know multiple developers who decided against a Linux version of their games because they saw how the "community" behaved on other games.
Quoting: callciferWhen Windows gamers get "heated" the developers don't have the luxury to stop supporting them. That's not the case for Linux. "I want to, but it's not worth the drama" is an exact phrase I've heard.
I don't know why you would bring that up. You cannot seriously expect everybody to respect this decision making. Because I absolutely do not respect it on any level. That is a terrible rationale for a bad decision.

Psyonix, creator of Rocket League is joining Epic Games (updated)

Quoting: Mohandevir"If Steam committed to a permanent 88% revenue share for all developers and publishers without major strings attached", Sweeney wrote, “Epic would hastily organize a retreat from exclusives (while honoring our partner commitments) and consider putting our own games on Steam."

Now that's pure B.S.!
So even though their store is offering this super enticing 88% cut they feel they have to use exclusivity deals to compete? Why is that I wonder? And are they saying their business model isn't good enough unless Valve specifically is earning less money for some reason? I feel like there are no good answers.

(edit: I mean okay, there are some answers like needing to entice actual customers and whatnot but my point is that a given business approach has to ultimately stand on its own legs without too many bullshit crutches, especially ones that thoroughly annoy the said customer base and disrupt everything)

I highly doubt they'd pull support for Linux. That would cause an absolute shitstorm. If anything, future Psyonix projects would be the ones affected. If for example they decided to make a Rocket League 2 for whatever reason.
It would but it wouldn't be the first or the biggest. And do you know where Epic draw the line? I don't.

No need to bottle it all up as Wine 4.7 is out with an updated Mono engine and more
28 Apr 2019 at 3:28 pm UTC

Quoting: mao_dze_dunI know it's not gaming related, but my biggest pain with Wine is that I cannot run my graphical software with it. Unfortunately both Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer use some fringe DX10 library and the DXVK Dev has straight out said he has no interest in working on it as virtually no games use it. So I keep checking Wine releases, hoping to see Serif software is finally working with it. I can get by with Notepadqq instead of Notepad++, for the most part Libre Office can replace MS office, I can run OneDrive sync with some effort and I don't do nearly enough video editing to be crying over Vegas Pro not working on Linux, but dammit I need my image editing software. Rant over :D.
I didn't know about Notepadqq. I switched from Notepad++ to Kate personally and I'm happy with it, but your mileage may vary because I don't really want much out of my editor other than syntax highlighting and split views.

Sorry about your software issues. Wine improves all the time, I hope you'll get what you need! Getting my music software work was really important, no, vital to me.

Is there yet an option to disable the bright bleak distance fog? It can be a beautiful effect when done right but I absolutely can't stand how it looks in Morrowind.

Epic don't have literally infinite money and the period when appearing on their store constitutes free marketing and discoverability will end as well. We'll see how they do when they run out of cheap parlor tricks. Or expensive parlor tricks, I suppose.
