Quoting: appetrosyanThe resulting "native" binary ran worse than through wine: it was crash-happy, it gave about 1/3 framerate, and half the graphical options didn't work at all. Naturally everyone was outraged [...]
I wasn't outraged. I waited for a while until VP put out a few patches and smoothed out the worst kinks. I enjoyed playing it just fine. It was still not perfect, but after the fixes it wasn't the worst port I'd seen, wrapped or not. You can easily see the progress they made by searching for articles on the game here on GOL.

I think Witcher 2 was VP's first properly demanding port and they might have simply been too optimistic with the schedule. You seem to only remember the drama and forget that we eventually got a decent port of a great game. VP did their job.
I don't think so. VP did more damage by exaggerating the outrage. They did a Virtual job, pushed it out half-baked instead of simply delaying launch, and instead of facing the music, they started pointing fingers. It's not the first, nor worst botched port they have produced. It's a company with next to no responsibility and discipline, two shifted the blame onto an easy target (me did hone it coming, but still).

Result? Witcher 1 has no Linux port, neither does Witcher 3. I doubt that this is the only reason, e. g. we still don't have Shadow of war, and there was no mess.
This idea of damage is entirely hypothetical as no official reasons were given by CDPR. Meanwhile the port is real.

This is going to be hypothetical too, but I find the idea that CDPR of all people are those sensitive does, who were completely stopped in their tracks and scared away by some typical gaming drama, caused by objective failings of their business partner no less, amusing. I understand though that this narrative is more appealing to swallow than the bitter version of reality where they simply don't care enough. You doubt it's the only reason, I doubt it's a reason at all and if it is, it's the least significant one.

Guys I've started a thread on a similar issue, where I'm considering to ask another developer to do the same thing. I'd appreciate all input.

Finally! After all these years the package manager of Arch will finally be native. So tired of running that shit through Wine. So thankful for Feral right now.

Quoting: jensAs far as I know they announce as soon as they are allowed to. You know what an NDA is?
I will tell you what it is not: it is no excuse from criticisms.
Then you should criticize the one forcing Feral to sign the NDA and not Feral who have no choice what so ever in the matter (other than not signing a NDA and thus not porting the game either).
I must confess to a little bit of confusion here.

Does anyone actually *know* that there is one or several existing NDA(s) that prevents Feral from saying which linux ports they are currently working on, forcing them to resort to hints and vague suggestions. Or is this just general speculation, that such NDA(s) might possibly exist, or just as likely might not?

I have no idea to what extent NDAs are used in the gaming buisness, nor in what situations they might be viewed as unnessecary or irrelevamt to the situation in question.
Yes, they've explicitly said so in the comments on GOL.

In their song "I Ran" there is a mention of Aurora (Aurora borealis). There could be a connection.
My thoughts as well.

The cloud is moving nearer still
Aurora Borealis comes in view
Aurora comes in view
I Ran (So Far Away) - A Flock Of Seagulls
If this lead is correct, then I can see two possible prominent themes in the song that wouldn't be too insanely cryptic to reference: a red-haired woman and disappearance. Which could either refer to a red-haired female protagonist or something disappearing. Or both. Well, there is also running of course but that is a bit too broad, it can't be the only meaningful element, right? (Unless we're getting Mirror's Edge or something)

Looks like AMD just open sourced their V-EZ Vulkan wrapper

Possibly yeah. This was a thought that crossed my mind too.
The recent revelations from Valve has made me rethink stuff and falling into tin foil hat thinking, like, what if they made SteamOS slightly uninspiring and their general linux strategy slightly unimpressive, just to make all competitors think "oh look, linux gaming is a dead end, just look at valve, they are getting nothing for their trouble" and then POUNCE on the linux market like this, so that they have a competetive edge by being first and best? Because in retrospect, becoming a patron and master of wine and linux gaming seems like a good long term plan really.
It's unlikely when there is a much more mundane reason — i.e. accomplishing anything of substance takes effort and time — but I'd be okay with that scenario. I respect smart tactical plays with positive outcomes.

Valve officially confirm a new version of 'Steam Play' which includes a modified version of Wine

Quoting: fenevadkanjust randomly installed a windows only game, that is not officially supported and it as just working fine: Professional Faermer 2014

Sadly I couldnt find another game in my lib, that worked, among the ones I tried:
- GTA 4
- Burnout Paradise
- Heroes 6 (ofc this thing is even download the crappy Upaly cielnt for it)
That is surprising, Burnout Paradise works pretty effortlessly in vanilla wine. Well, in staging at least.
