Some thoughts on Valve’s new Steam Play feature and what it means for Linux gaming
25 Aug 2018 at 4:51 am UTC

Speaking of SteamOS: Isn't Steam Play available on SteamOS? I've got the Steam client running on both Fedora Linux and a dedicated SteamOS machine, but I don't see the option to "enable Steam Play" for supported nor non-supported games.

Thanks. Got it to work, as well. Had to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH in the CrazyJustice.sh starter script. It's very rough, but I'm hopeful. I'm fine to wait. Unfortunately, I told my 10-yr old and now he's excited.

Valve's Steam Play should work better today, as DXVK was left in debug mode causing a performance drop

Got it to work with non-supported games by going to Steam -> Settings -> Steam Play then "Enable Steam Play for all titles".

Still not seeing the Steam Play icon on games, though.

Hope this helps.

How do I use Steam Play to play Windows-only games? Does it only start (not necessarily work) for officially approved games? I've got the Steam client Beta running on Linux (fedora) but don't see an option to start Windows games. Nor do I see icons that indicate a game is Steam Play compatible (I looked at Doom and Lego Marvel's Avengers and there's not Steam Play icons anywhere to be found).

What are you playing on Linux this weekend and what do you think about it?

Albion Online for me. I was one of the original backers but didn't get to play the official version till last week when I went back to figuring out how to run it on Fedora. Got it running and now am catching up.

On a sidenote: is there any interest in forming a guild of (initially) linux users? Run the guild smart with equal importance given to gatherers, crafters and fighters.

I'm confused. So can I now run ANY VR apps on my SteamOS-based machine? I don't care if I have to buy additional hardware. I just want to know which H/w I should get and which software to acquire.

Still not sure how to access the Alpha. Do I need to purchase the game before being able to try? I see the password above. Just don't know where to apply it.

HTC Vive Plans Linux/SteamOS Support For Day 1
29 Mar 2016 at 10:11 pm UTC

I posted the following in the forums here:

I had already pre-ordered it, but when I asked HTC Customer support if SteamOS would be supported, this is the response I got from a Ben-Hur with HTC:

Thank you for contacting HTC Vive support.

For now, HTC Vive only works with Windows platform. There is a big possibility that it will work with SteamOS in the future but we can not confirm that as of today.

Needless to say, I quickly asked how to cancel my order and promptly cancelled. I have to say, I'm really disappointed with HTC for not supporting SteamOS or for having a customer support group that is misinformed:

For the cancellation of your order, please contact our Online Store at 888 216 4736 and make sure to have your order number ready.

Hi, Andrei.

Could we get an RPM package for RedHat/Fedora made available?
