For the uninitiated, to see this new storage view: Steam -> Settings -> Downloads -> STEAM LIBRARY FOLDERS

AMD remains on-track for Zen 4 and RDNA 3 in 2022, Ryzen 5000 G-Series soon

This post aligns with the timeline at https://www.techadvisor.com/news/pc-components/amd-zen-4-3801795/ [External Link]

I'm looking forward to the improved speed and other features but not looking forward to buying another new MB, fan, RAM and most likely PSU (because why not). It looks like early versions may be limited to 16 cores.

Discord has reportedly ended talks with Microsoft to remain independent

I think it may be a good thing for the Discord employees. Any with shares could get a nice profit after the IPO. If MS bought them outright then only the execs would benefit.

Build engine port backed by GZDoom tech 'Raze' has a 1.0 release with Vulkan support

They haven't done Linux builds for a while https://github.com/coelckers/Raze/issues/160 [External Link] but it wasn't a big problem to build ZMusic and Raze from source. I was able to launch Duke3D Atomic, Duke3D Shareware and Redneck Rampage and the first levels played great. I tried Redneck Rampage with Vulkan and the Dukes with OpenGL.

I had to copy the .GRP files into /usr/share/games/raze for it to find them (I changed the default prefix from /usr/local to /usr).

Them's Fightin' Herds is now available on Linux with the 2.0 update out now

Quoting: RoosterWhy not throw some funny looking chicken in the mix? Or penguins
Chickens and penguins don't travel in herds so it breaks the name of the game.

The tenth Norse world sure is busy as Valheim hits 5 million sold

I play exclusively single-player for similar scheduling reasons and it's fine. You have to do all the grunt work yourself (resource collection) so for me anyway it's slower going than those in the valheim channel on Discord but I'm still enjoying it after many hours.

Quoting: scaineYeah, that was their "little joke" at the time - the user is an unfixable security vulnerability. Why are devs? Just... why? They can absolutely get in the bin with that attitude.

This has annoyed me all over again, so I'll spitefully not bother trying KDE after all.
Oh Kome on sKain, what's the problem with a little joke?

For the most part I don't interact with any of the K-commands directly that I know of. I tend to stick with xterm rather than their console FWIW.

What we expect to come from Valve to help Linux gaming in 2021

Similar to what Hori said, if I already have a Windows system capable of playing games why would I reboot using a USB stick to play them in Linux? Would this interest existing Linux users at all?

I rarely reboot as it is. The idea of rebooting every time I want to play a game? It's not for me.

Does the old Windows trope "I see you moved your mouse, please reboot" still apply?

This beats the alternative. A decade (or more) ago the Loki setup tools were statically linked to avoid libc issues. It only built this way on some golden, magical system that icculus had solely for this purpose.

Minecraft Java will move to Microsoft accounts in 2021, gets new social screen

I can't say I'm too keen on having to use a MS account either. My only experience with MS accounts is on the X-Box and it isn't great. Creating and managing a linked account for my son was bad and killed the unboxing experience. And I'm reminded every time I go to log in where it takes 10-20 seconds for the password prompt to appear.
