I wonder how well siege will work in single-player.

Too bad the update is only available on Steam. I still have the CD lying around here somewhere. On the RWS website you can pick up the game for $2 so not a huge cost in any case.

I agree with all the comments about the raid rate. I might play with aggression a bit as well. I haven't even tried the mistlands update because once past the swamp I found the game very grindy. I'm too casual to always play games in hardcore mode.

Several reviews show it outperformed by the 3080ti. I guess you get DLSS3 and better RT cores as a trade-off.
I'm considering switching to team red with a 6950. It seems similar cost-wise for more performance, excluding RT, at least while you can still get one.

Quoting: BeamboomI think it sounded to be a really good price? I paid twice that for my 3080 back then, and that was long after launch (although during the chip shortage period).

Not that I have a lot of sympathy for Windows users but dropping 7 is going to be hard pill to swallow for some. The 10/11 compatibility with some games is apparently pretty bad.

If you don't want to deal with the food and water mechanic you can start a game without them. I think there is an O2 mode for that too. I think they add to the immersion.
Shader cache downloads being a nuisance? Valve may have solved it

Thanks for that!
I restarted the client just now to apply the latest beta update and for the first time in recent memory not a single download was done, so I have hope that things are indeed fixed.

Quoting: 14Quoting: rcritEvery time I restart the client I get 20+ downloads immediately, plus recompilation and today was no different. I restarted just now and got 21 downloads for a total of 2.6GB (with associated fossilize_replay processes).I noticed the same happening to me. I'm not sure if it has gone away because I haven't been able to get on Steam for a while. But you're not alone!
Or maybe this is its last gasp and next time things will be golden.

I just finished the fourth level (Research Facility) and it plays fine. It's been decades since I last played it last so I can't say it's exactly the same. The AI doesn't seem particularly aware at all times.

Seems like there is more room for improvement. I leave steam running all the time, sometimes for weeks, with an occasional scheduled download but nothing major. Every time I restart the client I get 20+ downloads immediately, plus recompilation and today was no different. I restarted just now and got 21 downloads for a total of 2.6GB (with associated fossilize_replay processes).

When Liam said grab a cuppa I didn't think he meant one as big as your head :-)
It is an entertaining and wide-ranging conversation so worth the listen.
