What we expect to come from Valve to help Linux gaming in 2021
31 January 2021 at 2:22 pm UTC

Valve should partnering with RedHat or another big linux-development-player to create a Linux distribution for gamers and game developers. "Running Games natively on Linux" should be the motto.

The partnership could look like:

- Creating a modified linux-kernel for modern Gaming- and Desktop-experience
- Better test-area, how a new OS (or modified linux-kernel) will be performance on different hardware-settings
- Also better AMD-/-Nvidia/-Intel-Cooperation to improve their linux-drivers

And many more.

If you have a very good Linux-OS, then switching from Windows to Linux will be much more. The Proton-thing is in my opinion just the cherry on the good OS-cake ;)

Seems Valve do intend to go back to SteamOS at some point

PC Gamer just have (unfornatualy) more than one video game digital distribution service, they have others e.g. Ubisofts "UPlay" or EA "Origins". And thats the real issue to solve and develope "Gaming on Linux".

If Ubisoft or EA or other Big Player will developing "Games for Linux", then we don´t have to answer the question "Which is better for Gaming: Arch or Ubuntu or Debian?".

Valve looking to drop support for Ubuntu 19.10 and up due to Canonical's 32bit decision (updated)

I personally think, that Valve should create a Linux-Distribution, which is NOT based on Debian or Arch. It would be much better to have more controls, hat should remain and what not.

BUT Valve should also recreate a new desktop environment, which aims more for PC instead of Console.

If Microsoft's UWP had a Linux version, then for us Linux fans this takeover would be really interesting.

The Frostbite engine apparently has partial Linux support but that doesn’t mean we’ll get ports anytime soon

Before the Frostbite-Engine getting a full linux-support, it is better to have a linux-support of EA´s Origin, where the Games with Frostbite-Engine is getting released.

Some thoughts on switching from Ubuntu to Antergos for Linux gaming

I had Antergos installed 2 years ago, but in the end I crashed the OS completely. Last year I installed Manjaro XFCE Edition, which was great and satisfied. But I had some technical problems, which i can´t solved it.

Currently, I´m using Solus, which is faster than Antergos and Manjaro. And it looks sweat and modern.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is officially coming to SteamOS & Linux, port by Feral Interactive

Quoting: Eike
Quoting: TemplateRWell thats great. But I wouldn´t be better to port the predecessor "Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut" first and then the successor? I mean it is better to understand the story, when you play the first part directly instead of watching a reacap intro.

Hey, we cannot complain when we don't get the newest (Tomb Raider) and complain when we do get the newest! :D

I never played a "Deus Ex"-Game. Neither the "Deus Ex"-Series from Eidos Interaktiv nor the Square Enix-Series.

Before Square Enix is thinking about a SteamOS-/Linux-Version of "DeusEx Mankind Dvided" , they should port the predecessor "Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut" first.
