Google's game streaming platform Project Stream is built on Linux and Vulkan

Of course, my speculation might be wildly wrong. Like I said initially, the article is mad ambiguous.

Quoting: liamdaweA lot of questions remain, such as have Ubisoft essentially ported Assassin's Creed Odyssey to Linux with Vulkan, exclusively for use on Project Stream or is it using something more like Valve's Steam Play? Considering the performance it would need, it's likely a native port.So answering this question, what I believe currently is:
- they are developing a Linux-based console
- it will run natively ported titles with Vulkan
- it will also be a client for the streamed games (which will be ran on Windows)
Of course, my speculation might be wildly wrong. Like I said initially, the article is mad ambiguous.

And their streaming project could be easily linked with that as streaming is one of cheaper(?) ways to increase platform's games library.

Quoting: liamdaweWell, considering Project Stream as it is right now runs directly in your browser, why would it mean the client? Since currently, the client is just your browser.Earlier rumors speculated Google working on a gaming hardware, namely a console:

The article is super ambigous so we don't know do they mean clients running Linux (a dedicated streaming device, like NVIDIA Shield or Shadow Box) or Linux servers responsible for running the game.
But of course, as always, I am big into streaming technologies since they allow me to easily play many non-Linux games like PUBG, Fortnite, Rainbow Six Siege that don't run with Wine/Steam Play without the need to install Windows, dual boot or setup GPU passthrough. Big kudos to Parsec client here [External Link].
Can't wait to see where this one goes.

An update on the cross-platform Civilization VI patch for Linux and the recently announced expansion

Quoting: PatolaAlthough I am in love with Feral ports, and people have been repeatedly besmirching CivVI and Aspyr Media around due to their delays and turn to mobile, that's the one thing I really hoped Feral could learn from. If Civilization VI can fix their multiplayer support, why can't the Total War games?Rationale from the Company of Heroes 2 port is publicly available [External Link]. I would imagine that in case of other games same rules apply - to some extent.
Quoting: ellie_feralAny differences in the maths, even at the nth decimal place of precision, will accumulate to a tangible divergence in behaviour and ultimately a disconnect. When dealing with multiple architectures, operating systems and optimising compilers, tracking down all possible differences is a long and complex task. (...)Tl;dr: making multiplayer code cross-platform compatible is extremely hard if it was first written with specific hardware, architecture and operating system in mind.
And although we made progress on some of [multiplayer] issues during development, it's impossible to know how many issues remain and how much more work would be required on ALL platforms to get the title communicating successfully across Mac, Linux and Windows.
