I just recently finished The Witcher 1 and 2 on Linux using Proton, it was a surprisingly fun experience! Approaching the TW3 carefully now :)

Yes. Naysayers are exaggerating. Unless you need to absolutely max all the graphics fidelity settings in which case you will need a higher tier / much more expensive card anyway.
