Vulkan support is not far away now for the flight sim X-Plane 11, physics & flight model updates coming

Also don't forget the amount of money that a lot of simmers have invested in their sim with specific add ons and scenery packs. That's not something you just dump to start over. Besides, even if they did make it run natively on Linux, I have no reason at all to trust Microsoft for the future. I'll stick with X-Plane.

Quoting: iiariYou're talking about an unreleased product. For now it's all hype. I don't have particularly much faith in the big data approach. Good data is only available for a relatively small part of the world. I expect the rest to look pretty mediocre. On top of that, is there any way you're expecting this online service not to be a subscription model? This is Microsoft after all. They may start out without it to gain traction, but that's where it will be going.Quoting: Cyba.CowboyGonna be picky here, but Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is not expected to support Linux-based operating systems though, so technically, X-Plane has no real competition...I can't imagine even the hardest core, Richard Stallman worshiping Linux flight sim fan wouldn't do a dual boot or get a new machine to run MS 2020 when it comes out (assuming Proton doesn't work). I mean, dating myself here, I'm a flight simmer back to C64 and Apple IIe days, and MS2020 seems to be what we've all been waiting for our entire lives.

VR headsets are supported on Linux via SteamVR. Although getting the Index to work is a bit fiddly at the moment is it won't actually map its primary trigger. Which you need to actually map something.

Quoting: Cyba.CowboyDoes X-Plane support all those fancy flight simulator input / output devices (such as all the stuff Logitech sells [External Link]? What about virtual reality headsets - are they supported under Linux-based operating systems?I think most things are supported. Couldn't name one that isn't. And with a bit of work, you can add devices with images and definitions yourself since it is all config files. Although Logitech does not represent what is fancy. You could spend thousands on high grade yokes and throttle quadrants. :D Not sure about the cockpit stuff though since a lot of it is driven by plugins.

Humble Monthly will be changing to Humble Choice later this year

I bought a year of monthly when they discounted it to $99. Have been pausing quite a bit so it might last me two years. In fact, like scaine I'll be pausing again this month.
I suppose not extending it when it runs out is also considered cancelling. Anyway, need to have a thought about it. On the other hand the choice seems rather good, but it depends on what I can choose from. Should have a few months left to test it.

NVIDIA have released the big new Linux Beta driver 440.26 today

This one also has:
Fall back to system memory when video memory is full for some driver-internal allocations. This can help fix Xid 13 and Xid 31 cases in Vulkan applications when video memory is full.I think this is the one that crashed Vulkan for 7 Days to Die. Of course that leaves the issue of why VRAM was full in the first place, but that may be a 7 days or Unity issue.
The Linux port of Shadow of Mordor from Feral Interactive has gained a Vulkan Beta, a massive difference

Quoting: 1xokAt the same time I wonder why Feral is working on an old game. Most people might already own the game through one of the countless sales (I do). Of course, Feral is certainly one of those companies with a lot of enthusiasm and passion for their work. But in the end each of us has to earn money.Could be Stadia. But maybe they were working on it because of Apple 32-bit removal and decided to do something with Linux as well. Only Feral knows for sure and they're not known for telling. :D
I wonder if this might have something to do with Stadia, too? The game should now run better under Linux than under Windows. Feral has an exquisite catalogue of Linux games that have not yet been announced for Stadia.

Quoting: BrisseNice. I agree with others here though in that DE:MD is the one that really needs this sort of enhancement.Especially since I have an open bug report with them for missing hair rendering. This is apparently something that changed with later Nvidia drivers, but I can't check far enough back with my GPU.

Quoting: ArdjeI have X-Plane also on my wishlist. I did have some fun with Euro Truck Simulator, but I guess X-Plane is more realistic. And I actually don't want that.Completely different beasts. ETS2 is still a game. It's open ended, but the simulation level and mechanics are still geared to have fun even without skill. X-Plane is not a game, it is just a simulator. I think most flight simulator enthusiasts will tell you that flight simulation is a hobby. With matching time consumption and expenses. I have many hours in various X-Plane version, but haven't done too much of it lately and I'm getting rusty to a degree where I couldn't even get my B727 started any more. :D

Quoting: PatolaWill it have RTX and DLSS like the Windows version [External Link]? I would very much like to test my RTX 2070 SUPER with it...I would too. But since they likely ported off the DX11 version, I don't expect it will.
