Quoting: Purple Library GuySo, what about the cheating at cards? How'd that go?
It's basically a very hard variation of Solitaire (more like Freecell actually). To make it less brutal, you're allowed to move cards to a place where they don't belong, but then only allowed to move them away to a legal place. It's basically an extra rule to make the game more manageable.

Quake II RTX got an update to further improve the graphical fidelity

Quoting: wvstolzingI remember reading an article a few years ago, which predicted that once raytracing of this sort becomes mainstream, and our eyes get used to it, even the cutting edge billion dollar production George Lucas CGI from the early 2000s will start to look like N64 graphics to us -- with all the shortcuts and brain-duping tricks they had to implement with the lighting -- not to mention games from earlier eras.
On the other hand. I've been playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider and while the graphics is very good, I've been having a lot of uncanny valley experiences. My only explanation so far is that the detail is so good, that your brain expects everything to look real. But the lighting isn't. Not even close. You can see it if you pay attention, but it appears I'm subconsciously aware of it as well. It actually makes me very curious to see what they did with RTX and if that would help at all.

Quoting: ShabbyX> If this is still correct and it has been a long time since you updated,

It would be great if this said how long a long time is.

Quoting: CreakI didn't know about the loyalty discount. Where do you find that?
I noticed it when it said -10% in the overview on the front page, but -25% when I got to the actual store page.

Quoting: fagnerlnThe input lag is really impressive, obviously to competitive is bad, but for casual is nice.
The thing with input lag is that you can compensate for it in games where you know what's coming (platforming, stealth). However, it needs to be an approximately constant amount. If it's highly variable, then there is nothing you can do. I've personally experienced this while developing a game on a retro machine where the emulator experienced 1 frame lag. It could play on both the real machine and the emulator, but switching messed up my timing.

Set between Half-Life and Half-Life 2, Valve have now properly announced Half-Life: Alyx (updated)

Quoting: aokamiIt will be available for all VR platform, alright I get that.

But does that mean Valve integrated openXR in Source2 ? (Or they just have their in-house wrappers ?)
Having OpenXR in or at least prepared the engine for it would be game changing for future releases. (even though it's currently still a very young specification)

Anyway I'm curious about that on case anyone has information. :)
No information, but considering the state of the current OpenXR implementations, it is highly unlikely. That stuff will need more time to mature. So almost guaranteed to be SteamVR (=OpenVR).

Quoting: wvstolzingI wonder what Portal would look like in VR, at this graphical fidelity.
This is what portal looks like... https://store.steampowered.com/app/446750/Portal_Stories_VR/ [External Link]
Still need to try that one. I understand that it doesn't actually contain any portals since it is a UE4 creation using the assets. This might actually be a good thing. Portal could be disorienting in 2d. I imagine that the motion that Portal is based on would be having you running for a toilet in minutes.
