If you don't own Company of Heroes 2 yet, it's now 75% off on Steam, go get it

Quoting: TcheyNot sure about it. I loved Coh 1, but i think about CoH 2 quite negatively because of all the DLC coming with. Should i change my mind ?
You can now get the whole thing together in the Master Collection for 13,74€. So you won't ever have to see it as a bunch of DLCs.

I'll get it now. Even if I don't really have time to actually play it, it don't mind getting something for the support.

EVERSPACE, the amazing looking space shooter should be on Linux before the end of September

I recently bought a new joystick for X-Plane and found myself playing X3 again as well. This may fit very nicely too!

This unfortunately confirms what I suspected already. That Linux support for UE4 is not quite as painless as you'd want it to be. A few quirks aside, Unity3D seems to better in that department.

In fact, our lead tech has spent quite some time on his past weekends to make progress with the Linux build.
Let me use this random place to put a big "Thank you"! Not all devs would do the extra effort to get Linux working. Of course, I'll have to say the other thank you when it releases. :D

GOG will be adding games with virtual items purchases, according to changes in legal agreements

I need to think whether this is funny or sad. So basically there was a huge problem with Armello with DLC as DRM not being possible. And now they are going to allow microtransactions, which is exactly the same sort of DRM. I think someone higher up must have done some calculations and decided that DRM free was not worth missing the boat on microtransactions entirely.

So, who do we root for? Will we get more ports if you let Feral win? :D

Frenetic twin stick shooter and platformer ‘RIVE’ was released on Steam, it's Two Tribes final game

Quoting: TuxeeI suppose this was just "Toki":

Nope. It was called Eggbert. It was a homebrew game for the MSX2 system.

The original Toki Tori is also very hard.

I remember the actual original Toki Tori. Which wasn't called Toki Tori at the time. :P Probably around 1990. Ugh, that's a loooong time ago.

A Unity developer is teasing the Vulkan API in the Unity engine

Unity 5 (and UE4 for that matter) are still thoroughly designed around the needs of the DX11 API. I'm not so sure they can simply port that to Vulkan (or DX12) and really have an optimal solution. It may simply be that the entire engine needs to be rebuilt from the ground to really get the most out of the new APIs.
Correct, it's not enough to do a naïve port to get good performance. That's why Unity (and UE4 for that matter) are changing underlying rendering code in a massive way to make it better match modern APIs like PS4/Vulkan/DX12/Metal. At least in Unity, a lot of graphics related code has been rewritten, and continues to be rewritten as we speak. It's a bit of a challenge to do that while "in flight" (i.e. not breaking existing games etc.), but it's what we're trying. My understanding is that other engines are doing the same.

(I work at Unity)
Interesting. But doesn't that have negative a impact on DX11/OpenGL? Or is the new work completely separate?

I'm personally wondering whether Vulkan will make a really big difference.

I suppose as Linux users we will benefit more because it is likely that the DX11-OpenGL gap can be bridged with Vulkan. Similar to what we see with The Talos Principle.

Quoting: KeyrockHere's hoping for Vulkan support by the time it drops for the penguin. I suppose that's more up to Crytek than Dambuster, though.
Vulkan is for CryEngine V. This game is CryEngine 3. Probably a late 3 since that is where Linux support got in.

That really is disappointing. I somehow expected a story-focused action adventure with an original style and premise.
It was mentioned somewhere that the story part of the game would not appear in the betas, only in the final game.
