I gotta say every time I see articles here about this game I really like the map designs, and I like how colorful it looks. Most games going for the realistic shooter approach seem afraid to have vibrant colors for some reason and try to dull it out with grayish post-processing effects and fog.
A note about the sources of our information and how we really don't rip others off

Sorry if this is a bit of a controversial opinion, but who really cares if people "rip off" information from each other.
Who gets hurt when journalists borrow info and articles from each other? Is it the readers? No.
The only source that matters is the original source, I really don't care if secondary sources get credit just for being "first".
Information is information, it doesn't belong to anyone. People only want you to think that to protect their own selfish interests, because the only way to own information is to keep it a secret.
Not every site is a collection of articles for gaming, are we supposed to not spread gaming news to readers of a gaming news site just because another (probably non-gaming specific) site reported on it?
It's just silly, and honestly I have a really low opinion of anyone who gets worked up over that.
Of course, I know you haven't been "ripping off" information anyway. I'm just saying that I personally wouldn't care even if you were. The direct sources are all that matters. Beyond that you could copy-paste from secondary sources all you want and not give them any credit at all for all I care.

Some people just really want to inject their political alignment into the discussion every chance they get, just to show what side they're on even when the situation doesn't call for it.

Quoting: Pangachatso what's the problem? The problem is that certain political views have basically become a meme recently. Just like with any meme you have some people who are desperate to inject it into everything to show how much they "get it".

My thoughts on the MMO Albion Online on Linux, many months later

I've only dabbled in it, since I couldn't seem to bring myself to invest a lot of time knowing that it's just beta and going to be wiped.
But I'm eagerly awaiting that final one so I can really get into it.

Probably the same bug that they (should) have been aware of in their own game Unreal Tournament that has been messing up textures since the very beginning on Linux.

What's also interesting about this game that I saw in one of their videos is something they are calling "time boxing". Characters actually aren't going to be permanent in this game. Servers will end and all characters die with them.
They mentioned in the video that they can be very flexible with that system and, for example, create a server that's time boxed just for a few months, weeks, or even the duration of holidays if that's what people want.
So it doesn't seem like something that's going to require huge commitments at all.

Quoting: morbiusI always worry around addictive time consuming games, I was addicted to an MMO and later to MOBAs. If it's bad, you waste a lot of time to get into it just to abandon it. Not a good situation for working people. They mentioned that they wanted to make the game fun for people who couldn't commit a lot of time. I'm not sure they even have a leveling system at all. I think they basically just want this to literally be like playing a MOBA except in an open world.

From what I can tell it looks like their business model is you buy the game once, and they're also going to sell skins.
Considering how most modern MMO's make money that's a pretty damn good model in my opinion. Looks fun too.

What one game would blow your mind if it came to Linux & SteamOS?

Reflex would blow my mind in terms of excitement.
But in terms of a game that I would never expect to get Linux support, then anything from Blizzard would probably blow my mind.

Nearly 4 years later, Steam still won’t close to the tray icon on Linux without workarounds

I'm more concerned with the fact that I don't even get a steam tray icon at all in i3-bar.
I still use the workaround and it still behaves as it should (the window just disappears, presumably to a tray icon which doesn't exist). So to get the window back to launch my games I just attempt to launch steam again.
Thankfully it doesn't try to start a second copy of steam, and it just pulls the window up. So I can function without a tray icon and not have to deal with the window just being minimized. But it would be nice to see the steam tray icon again.
