Space Pirates And Zombies 2 Announced, Linux Is In

It's like Metroid going to 3D on the Gamecube and succeeding consoles. Nintendo successfully transitioned the game to 3D (you feel like its a 3D version of the same principle), and they made it great, but I have still liked playing new 2D Metroid games on Nintendo handheld consoles as well as other games that fall into the "Metroidvania" category.
There would still be room for games that followed in the tradition of the original 2D SPAZ even if this is fantastic.

Quoting: edgleySwitching to proper 3D is an interesting choice; I hope they keep the feel of SPAZ.I was thinking along these lines. This certainly could be great, and it could be satisfying to fans of the first game if it successfully transitions the feel of the game to 3D. Still, the 2D gameplay has a certain value.
Still, looking forward to seeing more of this.

Oniken Action Platformer Released On Steam For Linux Using Wine

I would hope that new efforts for games would just use a cross-platform technology. I don't know when this game was developed or what they used to develop it. It's clearly something that would be easy to make cross-platform without Wine if you started development for it now.
Shadowrun: Dragonfall RPG Release Date Announcement & Trailer

Quoting: AoCI could of told you the shadow runs game was pretty good. crash happy on AMD cards but plays flawless on my intel hd 4000. I am glad they took their time with it, can't say I haven't wished I was playing it already however.Do you mean with the Catalyst driver, or does it affect other configurations? I'm curious because my laptop with an AMD HD4850 with the open source driver is certainly powerful enough to run whatever an Intel HD 4000 can handle, so I would like to know if this game would be problematic on it or not.

Quoting: Quote from philip550cI'm pretty sure he's correct about it being a Catalyst issue. It seems to work fine with AMD cards that use the Radeon R600g open source driver. It even provides a decent experience on an old laptop with a Mobility Radeon HD2600 with a 1680x1050 resolution screen.Quoting: Quote from HadBabitsI appreciate their efforts, though mainly for allowing me to watch Netflix. (Despite performance and heavy graphical errors if not running fullscreen; I think it's an catalyst issue)What kind of graphical errors? I did not experience any errors using nvidia so your assumption might be correct.
Help Make Open Source AMD Graphics Drivers Better
13 Jan 2014 at 6:00 pm UTC
From the HD2400 to the HD7670 cards are all R600G. The HD7750 and above are RadeonSI. The old 9500 series (note the lack of "HD" ) to the HD2300 series are covered by the R300g driver. There are two older drivers that cover earlier cards. Development of drivers previous to the R600g is not as high a priority. The newer RadeonSI is still (as stated) not mature. The R600g driver is actually the sweet spot for driver optimization at the moment.

Quoting: Quote from gabsd84What he said ^. In fact to say that the RadeonSI driver is not as mature as the R600g driver in, for example, stock Ubuntu 13.10 is an understatement. I would describe RadeonSI support at that point as rudimentary. There have been major improvements to it already in newer versions of the kernel and Mesa which will become obvious in Ubuntu 14.04. However, if you enable DPM for the R600g driver, its performance is pretty good even in Ubuntu 13.10 (and should prove even better in 14.04).Quoting: Quote from IlyaGood, I use Nvidia, but recently made my parents an AMD (because they less energy and because I was curious to see the difference in customer support). This work is related to the R600g driver which covers hardware up to the HD6000 series. The R7 240 card you have uses the RadeonSI driver which is not as mature. In addition, without Linux Kernel 3.13 or newer you do not have dynamic power management enabled out of the box which means that the card defaults to its lowest clock rate thereby resulting in poor performance. A lot of performance improvements, bug fixes and improved OpenGL support (as well as dynamic power management enabled out of the box) will be available for Ubuntu 14.04.
This was last week. I was shocked at first: The open-source driver was slooow, had difficulties running Unity, and my sister couldn't play her steam games on it. The official driver said it was incompatible with the hardware. Luckily a few days later a new version came out that was compatible. Soo much faster than the open-source driver... I really hope they can improve the AMD open-source driver.
The hardware was an R7 240 btw.
Hope this helps explain why you saw such poor performance.

I know I have this game. I haven't played it much yet. I picked it up on sale sometime. I think it must have been from Gameolith. I know that it works fine for me now. I do remember at one time or another having the empty Flash window issue, but I'm not sure if it was with this game or when I installed another one before this.

Subnautica From The Developers Of Natural Selection 2 Announced

17 Dec 2013 at 5:57 pm UTC
Quoting: Quote from KristianSo they went to the trouble of creating their own engine for Natural Selection 2 only to use Unity in their next game? Perhaps it just wasn't a good fit for this game. That could be it. It's also possible that if Unity were like it is now they would have used it on NS2. It does seem that if it were easy to use the engine they developed for NS2 for this game, though, they would have gone ahead with that. However, they also might have decided that offloading their game engine development/maintenance burden to a licensor would just make more sense going forward, and decided to move all new material to Unity.

Activision Is Blocking A Game Coming Over To Linux UPDATED

Activision was started by a bunch of developers that felt like they were being stifled and given the shaft by the soulless corporation of Time Warner/Atari back in the day. Now they've become the soulless corporation that stifles developers and gives them the shaft. When Activision acquires a new development studio, it's a sad occasion. I remember how sorry I was to hear it when they acquired Blizzard.
