Valve launches Deck Verified, to show off what games will work well on the Steam Deck

Quoting: Alm888So… In other words, Valve acknowledges that their "all your library should work" and "no porting required" promises are not feasible.
I wouldn't say that. Valve said that their goal is 100% compatibility. This is supposed to be a step in that direction. They're hoping to see more and more games make it to at least "Playable" status (with the possible exception of things that require specialized hardware, like a VR headset).

Valve never "promised" that "all your library should work" with "no porting required." They said that was their goal. Of course "no porting" does not necessarily mean 'no tweaks.'

This is related to gambling laws that could make activity regarding blockchain items illegal in certain places and in turn make Valve subject to legal action.

Techland continue expanding the Hellraid DLC as they try to improve reviews

Quoting: slaapliedjeI still haven't sat down and played Hellraid, as I beat the game long ago and always find it hard to go back just to play some DLC, is it worth it?

Have we gotten any word about the second one being native to Linux?
That reminds me that I haven't gone back and played the DLC that came bundled in the sale where I got Bioshock Infinite. I have to do that at some point. I've had some recent obstacles that have curbed my game playing. I'm hoping to get back to some of the games I was playing soon.

Quoting: LudologicalI have an R9 270x which I've been looking to replace for years due to problems with Vulkan support in Linux. Doesn't look like I'll be buying anything soon.
That's one of those cards that has some support for Vulkan if you set a kernel parameter, right? I have a card from that generation. It was my card before the current one. I was expecting to replace my current card with the RDNA2 generation, but then this happened.

Quoting: KohlyKohlYour argument was that Valve wanted SteamOS VIA Linux to succeed. By allowing Windows to be installed on Steam Deck, it negates that argument as SteamOS 3.0 will also be on Windows.
You do realize that Steam OS 3 is a Linux distribution and will not be "on Windows." Steam has been on Windows a long time. I'm not sure what you're trying to say. (Edit: It occurs to me that perhaps you are talking about the new UI mode for Steam? That will be available for all Steam clients, including the Windows one, yes, and will replace Big Picture Mode.)

Quoting: KohlyKohlBy allowing other ecosystem, such as different manufacturers or different operating systems, it shows that they are fine with whatever happens. They only care about Steam succeeding and they are hoping that Steam Deck furthers that goal.
This does not follow at all. Valve wants the Steam Deck to be an open AMD64 hardware platform. That means allowing Windows. If people put Windows on it, Valve can still make a profit on games bought for it, so they won't altogether lose financially if that happens. That doesn't mean they don't care whether Steam OS on the Steam Deck succeeds or not. They put work into that for a reason. They want it to succeed. Hedging your bets does not mean you don't care about the outcome.

I never expected to be stuck so long on my Vega 56. However, until I start seeing new cards for MSRP or less, that's going to be my card. I expect that eventually either the demand will lessen or chip production will catch up or the world will end. We'll see.

Quoting: KohlyKohlThe mere fact that one is even allowed to install Windows on the Steam Deck negates this argument.
How so? Do you know what "negates this argument" means? It implies a significant logical flaw that makes the argument invalid. Even if what I said turns out not to be the case, it would not be logically flawed; it would merely be incorrect.

Quoting: KohlyKohlI hope most people keep Linux on the Steam Deck. However, I've known enough Windows gamer's over the years to know that many of them will be more than willing to install Windows on the Steam Deck even if it is something they normally wouldn't do.
We'll see I suppose. I don't see a high percentage of people moving it to Windows unless Valve "drops the ball" somehow. The most likely way I could see would be if this is too soon for the whole Proton/Steam OS approach to be truly ready (or, conceivably, that the Proton/Steam OS approach could never be ready enough).

Quoting: peta77Well, I don't care if it's sprites, pixel art or whatever. As a player I'm only judging the visual appearance, not the technical stuff of the backend. And I rather prefer the modern, more realistic look. That's all I wanted to say.
I suspect that the confusion here is about the definition of "pixelated" as it relates to games.

The typical use of "pixelated" is that the visuals include oversize pixels so that the resolution of individual objects on screen is really low compared to screen resolution. This can happen with extreme scaling, especially with no anti-aliasing or resampling, or when someone decides to imitate older graphics for a retro game by imitating either low resolution images or the previously mentioned scaling.

Your comment here leads me to believe that when you said "pixelated" you just meant using pixel art, rather than seeing oversized pixels. This game does use pixel art (or bit-mapped) sprites rather than texture mapped polygons as most newer games do.
