Hmm. Back in the early-mid 1990s, I bought my first PC compatible computer, a 386DX-40 with 4MB RAM and a 100MB hard disk. It came with a terrible 14" CRT monitor apparently made by a company called KFC. It had a horizontal width knob to adjust the screen size, but no way of adjusting the vertical height. It was OK running Windows 3.1, but when running MS-DOS, it rendered the first line of the terminal above the display so it could not be seen. I can tell you that the Colonel does not make good monitors!

I had Steam gripe that both the steamapps and SteamApps subdirectories existed and it wanted me to sort it out. It turns out that steamapps was a symbolic link to SteamApps. I removed the symbolic link and then changed the name of SteamApps to steamapps (all of this after closing Steam). That sorted it out for me.

I don't recall whether or not it was me that created the symlink originally. I might have created it myself for some reason.

No. However, to be fair to Jolla (which they don't deserve, in my opinion) I do recall ticking the box that effectively meant that they should keep the money. I still had hopes that they could do good things with Linux. It wasn't so much the loss of the money, but the scandalous nature of their behaviour that annoyed me the most. Never again.

This seems to have fixed my crashes running Foxhole too, which I did think looked eerily similar in the logs to those I was seeing playing Squad! Good stuff.

Yep. I played the Spectrum version first (I still have my original boxed copy, and remember buying it as if it was last week), but I played it on a friend's C64 lot too. And on the school BBCs when the teachers weren't looking. The Commodore's framerate wasn't as good (then again, these things are relative :) ), but I did always envy the Dodec stations. I think it was the first version to have them. And Trumbles, but I wasn't so bothered about missing out on those. ;)

I remember struggling to use the Lenslok device with a 28 inch black and white TV (used as a monitor) in order to get Elite working on my speccy. I had to stand half-way across the room from the TV and squint through the bit of plastic crap to try and read the mangled symbols on the screen!

What's going on with the version numbering?

With my Ubuntu 16.04 box, I'm already on 418.56. How come 418.52.18 is newer?

My previous attempts to use a 430 series driver have resulted in an un-bootable system, requiring me to purge nvidia* and install the 418 series driver again.

I'm wondering if the fix in 430.40 for systems with CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU enabled (set "y" on my box) is a fix for the boot failures I've experienced with the 430 series drivers. I have tried a couple of different versions over the past couple of months. I am currently running kernel 4.15.0-55. No package updates for the new versions are showing up yet though.

UPDATE:
Obviously I don't expect 418.52.18 to be available as an update in the PPA given that 418.56 has been around for a while.
