Hey, thanks Cheese!

Now that you've mentioned that, I felt it worth searching a bit, and found this [External Link], which pretty much corroborates those sites remaining independent.

I really liked how integrated the three sites were (four, with SlideDB), and now wonder if those site integration features will need to change.  I suppose it's a bit early to be wondering about that, seeing that right now, nothing has changed whatsoever.

Quoting: Isak MartinssonHey awesome article! Didn't think we would hit spot 3 on the hidden gems :O Really really nice and thanks!
Hey!  Are you one of the devs for Fran Bow?  If so, thanks for making a graphic adventure game for Linux, and welcome to the community!
Thanks! I'm the other coder yeah! Glad you liked it, hope you try out the demo! It's not a .deb as that part needs a bit more haxing and my linux level isn't that high yet, but I got a cool dude helping me out with that!
Yeah, actually, I prefer a Desura version or ".tar.gz" over a ".deb" installer.  I don't think there's any expectation in our community for a pre-release version to be distributed in a "proper" package file.  In fact, I'd go so far as to suggest that you not waste your time doing so.  Wait on the packaging work for release, as you won't be absolutely certain what it's full set of run-time dependencies will be until closer to release.

As a point of curiosity, what engine are you using for the game?  At first blush, the demo appears to have been built in GM Studio, using the Ubuntu exporter, but I don't know for sure.  Also... holy Hannah it's dark!  And I don't mean graphically :D  Wow, I might well pledge a modest amount toward Fran Bow, and still not gather the courage to actually play the full game!

That's my stance on Senscape's Asylum [External Link] as well (if you haven't seen it, you aught to check it out!  It's another terrifying graphic adventure).  I backed it with little expectation of actually playing it!

Quoting: muntdefemsOn an unrelated note, we appreciate having followers that customarily read every little bit of our columns, but for the record we'd want to state that LFG & The Fork of Truth was already featured as a Biggie two weeks ago. :D
Ah, yes... wow!  Sorry, Munt.

Wow!  This is huge news!  A little scary, of course.  Their unique mix of features has fit my needs, and I've been a pretty strong supporter of Desura since the first Linux beta client.  I've invested considerably into my game library there, and I'm sure that I'm not alone in being somewhat concerned about what this means, so it's really great to see Scott address us here, personally!

If a member of the team, or an employee of Linden Labs, chooses to drop by this thread again, I'd be very pleased to have answers to a few questions.

The first was addressed by Scott himself, regarding the future of Linux support.  It would be good to have a few details there, but his presence and brief statement is very encouraging, and indeed, much more than I'd expected.

Secondly, I'd like to know what role the founders have in the new entity (i.e., Scott, Henley, Protektor, etc.).  They've worked really hard building this site and the community around it;  I'd feel better knowing that their vision was being enhanced rather than replaced.

Thirdly, I'm curious what effect this transition will have on the other DesuraNET properties (e.g., IndieDB, ModDB & the new SlideDB).  Were all of them purchased, or just the Desura service itself?  And, if they were all purchased, what will their future be?

Lastly, those of us whom are members of the community probably have some nifty constructive criticism/advice.  I surely do!  Will a specific avenue be opened for these sorts of comments?  Or should we do what we usually do, which is post on the Desura forums (or just e-mail Scott directly :P)...

Good catch Cheese!  I hadn't read about that statement of his.

Quoting: s_dSecond, American McGee's new Oz-related game project probably deserves a nice paragraph above, in light of the most recent update [External Link].
Are you referring to the name change to "Oz Action Adventure"? I think it happened after I wrote the blurb, but it would be good to sneak in a little update...
Yes, precisely that!  It almost certainly happened after your wrote the blurb, and probably slightly before the article went live, and yes, sneaking in a small update is precisely what I'm suggesting :)

I always read the introductory paragraph...

So!  A couple of notes... first, there's another noteworthy "Biggie":  LFG & the Fork of Truth [External Link].

It's a 4-player co-op RPG based on a very popular web comic [External Link], but appears to be struggling like the other Biggies.  For some reason, the name makes me think of the upcoming South Park RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, called The Stick of Truth. :P  Anyway, like the South Park adaptation, this game has a colorful cartoon-like quality to it, somewhat reminiscent of Torchlight.

Second, American McGee's new Oz-related game project probably deserves a nice paragraph above, in light of the most recent update [External Link].

Great article!  It's easier to get people excited about the site with regular columns like these, especially developers.

The Cheapskate's Corner 8 (Jul 4th-10th) (UPDATED)

Hmm... I just realized that this past Humble Bundle With Android 6 was a 'first' in two different ways.  As we discussed before, it's Revolution Software's first actual Linux release (Broken Sword: Director's Cut), but also it was the first Humble Bundle to offer a Kickstarted game, Organ Trail.

Pretty neat, huh?

Ha! Adorable :)

If I'm not mistaken, this guy was also Kickstarted!  Seems like the mainstream press wants to focus on high-profile Kickstarter drama (i.e., issues around Broken Age, OUYA, etc) but never seem to pay much attention to the flood of small victories we see.

Soon, my collection will be dominated by Kickstarter titles!

Anyway, I agree with everything you said above, Liam, charming indeed.
