Wow, Cheese... I see what you did there :)

Vacant Sky: Awakening Needs Just ~1K To Support Linux

@projectbc: I'm stunned by how many more pledges we're getting from Windows Phone sites than Linux. It's almost two to one.

Gear Up coming to Linux

Cool!  Title correction, though:  "comming" -> "coming"  (no criticism... just trying to help us, here, look as professional as possible... GOL's status and profile is becoming increasingly important as Linux gathers Steam... ;) )

Wasteland 2 Confirmed for Desura

I prefer Desura over the Humble Store. It has community features (discussion forums), it's easier to browse the game catalog (nice website), it's integrated with other very useful gaming community sites like IndieDB and ModDB, and it has a nice (optional!!) desktop update client. Also, Desura support is much more personable and helpful than Humble Support (which itself is pretty good).

If one doesn't like or want the desktop client, they don't have to use it. They can just download installers directly (at least on the ~50 games I own on Desura), and manage all their DRM-free updates by hand. I've mostly stopped doing that, and am now using a Desurium release-candidate (the GPL version of their desktop update client).

So, yeah... W2 on Desura is a huge plus for me, and a relief as well. However, the point made about revenue is definitely a strong one; to my knowledge, all the large-ish triple-A and indie digital distributors (Steam, Origin, Gamersgate, GOG, Desura, etc) take a 30% premium, versus Humble taking (I think?) 5%.

Still, for me the convenience on Desura is worth a slightly higher pricetag (which I've yet to notice yet, BTW).

Wildman gives hints and small hope for Linux!

Yep, that's pretty much what they wrote to me on the 14th (I sent Gas Powered a query via Kickstarter when it launched, before too many people hopped on and clogged up their message queue).

Gas Powered Games says:

Hi there, thanks for your interest.
We are currently switching our render from Direct3D to OpenGL in anticipation of it being more multi-platform, but we're not quite ready to announce where Linux specifically fits into this strategy.

Still, we know the love for Linux out there; it's definitely on our radar.

I liked this response a little better, as it addresses Linux directly. I give them a bit more leeway over the many, many Unity 4 game projects which ask for hundreds of thousands of additional dollars to do their porting work, as significant effort may possibly be required to achieve robust, solid performance on Linux by porting a custom engine.

I suppose I ought to start passing that kind of stuff on as soon as I learn it... :-P

Kickstarter and Indiegogo list
17 Jan 2013 at 5:02 am UTC

Hey, thanks Speedster! I'm all over that game.

Also, folks, the Strike Suit Zero project (funded on November 17th at $174.8K plus ~$3K from PayPal, out of the $180K Linux stretch goal) just committed to Linux in update #26 [External Link] on their Kickstarter page. Also, a sweet racing game called Distance [External Link] came, funded, and is completed now.

Where can we collect and track these? Flibitjibibo ran a wiki for crowd-sourced Linux games, in which we could update their status (etc.), but he ran it on his "Steam on Linux" blog, where he tracked how one goes about running Steam Windows games in Wine and either took or is taking it down (since Steam is on Linux proper, now).

This list is theoretically for "active" projects only (and even it is out of date). Any ideas? I wiki page somewhere? Different tracking thread?
