The "strange" helmet helmet colour looks very much like they are accidentally using the normal map as a texture

Quoting: GuppyI'm curious - under what circumstances would you need HDCP with linux ? I mean there is ( AFAIK ) no licensed BD player for linux so we don't really have a source of HDCP content or am I missing something here?
Maybe I'm wrong, but for what I understand HDCP isn't a feature, it's a mandatory API that has to be implemented if you want to connect devices using DVI, HDMI, DP, etc... A BD player needs it, but your display needs it also. So, no HDCP, no image basically...
As I understand it HDCP is only needed for protected content - basically a bluray player asks if HDCP is supported ( properly via crypto challange ) and if that fails it refuses playback.
For instance HDMI recorders like elgato needs a HDCP free signal, and because of that the PS4 has the ability to turn off HDCP which in turn disables bluray playback

Substance Designer 6 released with day-1 Linux support

Quoting: KohriasI have arranged with proprietary games for the time being. Accepting all sorts of proprietary software is a no-go in my opinion though. It will lead to another non-free platform like Windows or MacOS very fast and the advantages of open-source / free software will get lost.
Makes no sense, one does not preclude the other.

If say Lightroom was ported to Linux that does not mean that darktable would cease to exist, if photoshop was ported that does not mean that Krita, Gimp, etc would vanish in a puff of smoke.

In fact a lot of software ( Gimp and blender off the top of my head ) also manages to exist on non-free platforms.

You could just buy it - or pay for 1 month of live and then pause your subscription.

I don't really understand the problem?

They use the exclusive standards.

Why?

I have no fucking idea.

[...]
Because it's the safe logical progression DX12 might be 99% different to DX11, but being used to DX they will take that 1% familiarity over something the is 100% unknown.

At any rate, improved portability between APIs can only be a good thing, so I'm in favor of it. Perhaps then we won't see cases like Civ 6 where it runs like butter on Windows but chugs on Linux.
Your forgetting that we already have a cross platfrom 3d acceleration API, having an additional one will mean just as little as the previous one if people don't use it.

Worse still if the new standard wraps/jit compiles it's competitors that will make it slower and thus be seen as worse. Sure you can run Sports franchise 2019 on Linux thanks to 'shiny API v#++' but the performance is 10% lower than on windows - conclusion; 'shiny API v#++' sucks

How to record videos on Linux using OBS Studio with separate audio tracks for gameplay and microphone

Quoting: GuppyA long time ago I used some software called JACK that would allow me to create custom audio pipes to either send other programs or to specific output channels on my "Sound Blaster Live!".
Pulseaudio should handle this use case just fine. Jack is excellent for other reasons, but overkill for most of us.
Then perhaps you could enlighten @camoceltic as to how it's done?

Quoting: camocelticOne thing I've been trying to find for a while is how to record different programs on different tracks. EG: I want to separate Discord's audio from CS:GO's. Anyone know how to do that, since I can't seem to figure it out myself?
A long time ago I used some software called JACK that would allow me to create custom audio pipes to either send other programs or to specific output channels on my "Sound Blaster Live!". That last bit should give you some clue about just how long ago we are talking xD but maybe it still works, certainly worth researching;
